Nate Staniforth has a new series of podcasts.
They are well worth checking out. Anyone who has read 'Clouds and Kingdoms' knows that Nate is a brilliant thinker when it comes to magic.

The podcast is called Eveything But the Flame. The first episode has a beautiful story that gives the story behind the title.
There are ten in total. A new one is released each week, and we are currently into week 8.
Each episode is under 20 mins long and focuses on a single idea that will help you think about your magic from a new perspective. I love how compact and insighful each episode is.
I recommend it to all thinking magicians. And all non-thinking magicians (like me) as well!

Art…

Emotions…

Hey Jim - I loved your work with Juan Tamariz on those A1-Magicalmedia videos back in the 90's.
Those were incredible videos! One of the earliest highlights of my life in magic.

Joe—I loved doing those. Juan asked me to translate for him, and I was frightened. He is an artist, and my Spanish was horrible.

He is, and he does a lot of thinking.

That is a very good point Mr. Krenz.
I would put mastery of craft as a prerequisite to 'art' and the former requires a lot of time, effort and thought, especially in magic.

That is no doubt the best sentence I have read about the relationship between craft and art as it relates to magic (and probably any other art).

Note that when I said …doesn't require thinking or non-thinking… — thinking can certainly be involved.
In my opinion, it is not a requirement.
Getting back on topic:
I have listened to the first episode of Nate's podcast. It is very good. I have subscribed.
I don't like some of his answers, but I feel that he is asking very good questions.
In my opinion, it is not a requirement.

I read Nate's book about India. It was interesting reading. I don't seem to have the book any more and I don't remember buying it in the first place. I suspect I got it out of the public library.

I am not disagreeing with you Jim, just saying there is a lot of work to be done before one gets to the true 'art' stage, which may well be accomplished without any conscious thought.
Oddly enough, any of the magic performers that I would consider true artists, all see themselves as students of magic.

Re: Nate Staniforth - new podcast series
Nate has been delayed in putting up the final 2 episodes of his podcast series because he is carrying out multiple rewriates in order to get it perfect. I contacted him to ask about the delay and this is what he told me.
