Happy Thanksgiving to you and the entire Genii staff.
Effect and method are inextricably linked.

Happy (one day late) Thanksgiving Day to All!
Last weekend I had a little anecdote I wrote in "The Magician's Forum":
"... I was visiting an old friend of mine with my family...
At certain moment during the evening, he told me:
- "Hey, you do card magic, right?"
Right after saying that he handed me a deck of cards from a drawer...
While shuffling the deck I started thinking about what (impromptu) card trick to do...
Then, he launched his arm toward me...
I said:
- "What?"
He said:
- "I pick a card, right?"
I was taken aback for a second right before saying...
- Oh... Yes... Of course...
Then, I spread the deck and had a card selected...
I just did one of my favourite impromptu "pick a card" tricks.
The situation was as funny as hillarious to me!
I did a "pick a card" trick because the spectator assumed it like so!
That showed me that some spectators see Card Magic as just:
"Let's see what will happend with MY CARD: be divined, discovered, appeared/disappeared, changed, transposed...?"

Nice story, Paco. I would venture to say that impromptu magic with a borrowed deck, when well done, is among the most impactful close-up magic we can do for a lay person, whether it is a pick-a-card trick or otherwise. And all the stronger if they initiate things, by requesting we do something. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen that often that someone hands us their deck with a request for a trick. I wouldn't be surprised if, after you performed the trick for him, he placed an order for a custom made t-shirt with your picture on it.
My curiosity has got the best of me though, so I can't resist asking specifically what trick you performed for your friend?

That's so true Alfred!
Maybe that's the very reason I finally got to be considered a "true" card magician for my people!
God bless impromptu card tricks!

Also very true, unless your are quite known as a card magician amongst the people you usually hang out with

Ha, ha, ha! I would love to order a t-shirt with a picture of his face after the magic effect

Good curiosity!
At first I thought about Professor's Triumph, but, I prefered a longer plot... So I did a version of Jack Avis' "Lost Ace Problem."
I really love that card trick plot:
When the spectator take for granted that the face down card on the spread is his card, (being that the magical effect), it turns out to be the Ace that is supposed to be face down amongst the others, in the other side of the table! Then, spectator really freak out when that supposed Ace turns out to be the selected card! Hillarious!
