Simon Lovell

Postby Richard Kaufman » July 22nd, 2021, 4:28 pm

This noted on The Magic Circle Members page on Facebook:
"We were saddened to learn that Simon Lovell, AIMC had suffered two strokes - and is now recuperating at home after a stay in hospital. Happily, his father, a sprightly 90-year-old, is able to visit and provide sustenance, although Simon would love a 'phone call or visit from friends and any well wishers. Comedy magician par excellence, self-professed 'confidence man' and author of 16 books, many will know of his success in the long-running off-Broadway show, "Strange and Unusual Hobbies", as well as his regularly featured performances in "Monday Night Magic", in New York City, and at the Magic Castle. We wish him a speedy recovery."

I hope the best for him. Simon and I had a fine time together in Sacramento back in the late '90s. It included a terrific moment of bondage.

Sending best wishes to Simon. I met him years ago at one of the old Florida State Conventions, and 2 things stand out. One was that he told some of the most twisted jokes I had ever heard, and the other was the line of empty beer bottles behind his table in the dealer's room ...

So sorry to hear this. Simon was a fixture for a while on the New York magic scene, and I would spend time with him at Ace Greenberg's famous magician dinners. Sending my best wishes for a speedy recovery!

When I was assembling material for my Ten Card Deal book, I showed some ideas to Simon and he said, "Yeah, but what if you could this!?" Well, at the time, I had no method to do that, but Simon's comment spurred me on to create a really good effect. Thank you Simon. When he was working as a consultant on a TV show (name escapes me) we had several discussions about some problem he had to solve for the show. Simon is a great guy, a creative guy and a very funny guy, and we need him in our crazy little magic world.

Bob, I believe Blue Collar is the show. He had a few bit parts in the show, one speaking. Very clever, intelligent, and funny guy. He used to host private lectures at his apartment in CT. Some big names came though and spent time. Not too long ago, someone in England sponsored a lecture on his birthday a few years ago. The lemming still had it.

Is his straight jacket escape famous amongst the US magicians?

I saw a video of it once. It was recorded at a British magic convention.

Funniest magic trick I have ever seen.

He had a brief cameo on Nick Lewin's Billy McComb tribute stream which was recorded a few months ago.
