Magic Live 2021 Postponed Until May 2022

Stan writes:

On April 8th, we put 2021 Registration on hold, while we reevaluated producing MAGIC Live this summer. Actually, while we overthought every aspect of the event — again! It’s been a little like nailing jelly to a tree, while the tree keeps moving.

After projecting out all the things we were going to be able to do and all the things we weren’t going to be able to do, MAGIC Live started looking more like MAGIC Lite! Sort of a low-fat Live! The fun of producing this unconventional convention is trying to do something better each year. And we came to realize that just wasn’t going to happen in 2021.

So, while it’s very disappointing to have to cancel this year’s event, for us that’s better than going forward and being disappointed in the event itself.

While it’s very disappointing to have to cancel this year’s event, for us that’s better than being disappointed in the event itself. Instead, we’re moving forward with a full-scale MAGIC Live in 2022.

So, what now?

No, that’s not a typo. We had an opportunity to move from summer to spring next year, and we took it. By the way, the average mid-May temperature in Las Vegas is 78°. It’s a beautiful time of year to be in the “Entertainment Capital of the World.”

Registration to MAGIC Live is $455 per person.

Each registration includes tickets to all performances, access to all sessions, workshops, special events, parties, and our dealer room, as well as giveaway items. There are no extra-charge events.

You have the option of paying in full, or joining our convenient payment plan (seven installments of $65 plus a $2 fee per transaction).

Your registration is 90% refundable through March 1, 2022.

While a registration to MAGIC Live is a little higher than other conventions, our hotel room rate is considerably lower ($54 per night plus resort fee and tax). Thus, when you take into account the combined cost of your hotel and registration, MAGIC Live is one of the best bargains of the year!

General Registration for MAGIC Live 2022 opens:

Tuesday, May 18, 2021 • 10 a.m., Pacific Time

You will be able to simply register for yourself, or you can create a group of up to 8 people.

To make sure you and your friends are ready to sign up on May 18, be sure to read our Registration Guide.

Hope you can join us in May of ’22!

With resort fees and taxes, the room rate nearly doubles to about $90/night. That's still very decent, but anyone expecting $54 rooms might want to take that into account.

FWIW, I think Stan (and RK) made the right call for their respective conventions. Looking forward to both events being back stronger than ever next year!

Are there any in-person magic conventions planned for 2021? The Gathering for Gardner is set for October 20 through 24, 2021, but it isn't really a magic convention.

Has Abbott's cancelled? And last I heard MagiFest was still on for September.

Magic Collectors Expo in Las Vegas is still on for August 19-21, even though Magic Live (which was to be just after it) has been postponed. I understand it is sold out with a waiting list.

That’s not going to be a problem for the majority of magic conventions

We're not even allowed in and we live here!

As it happens, we're allowed out and about from tomorrow - first time since Christmas Day.

Actually, Richard, the limit varies with the size of the room.

Outdoors like Fremont street is wide open. I worked last night and it was arm to arm which was painful to me because i just got my covid shot. I wish that was a joke someone bumped in to me and my arm was still tense and i had to call it a night and go rest.

Vegas is at 50 percent and next month we are being told hotels will be 100 percent and this is from my brother who is a head pit boss at Mandalay Bay and also Fremont security and police but currently we are at 50 percent

I've spoke to two people about it recently and that is not what I was told.

State general guidance for large events is 50% capacity or 250 attendees, whichever is smaller.
However, more than 250 attendees limit can be exceeded (still keeping to 50% capacity) if a certification form is submitted and approved. Effective May 1, approval shifts from state to local governments.

As of this week Ken Scott plans to hold The Atlanta Harvest of Magic in late September/early October. Attendance will be limited to 100. Talent booked so far: Jeff McBride, Chris Capehart, and Bizzaro. More to come. The website wasn't accurately updated yesterday, so I didn't include the link here. URL is atlantaharvestofmagic.com. Hopefully it will be complete and accurate soon. I'd suggest contacting Ken in the meantime.

In addition to the restrictions in room capacity, the Orleans has a limit of four people per elevator. Stan, as resourceful as he is, probably couldn't convince the staff to install ziplines from the guest rooms to the main showroom.

I sincerely hope things change for the positive in the next twelve months.
