Gender Neutral Playing Cards, A Controversy?, Or Just A Natural Progression In Today's Political Climate?
A few questions I have regarding the recent introduction of gender neutral playing cards:
Will we at some point in the future, have to kiss the traditional deck of playing cards goodbye?
Will we be forced to conform regarding gender neutral playing cards?
Will venues be forced to only employ magicians who use gender neutral playing cards?
Will the major playing card manufacturers be forced (by law) into printing only gender neutral decks?
Will there come a time when people who openly ridicule gender neutral playing cards could face prosecution?
Will.

Seconded by everyone over here in the cheap seats.

There's nothing "recent" about such things. There were female Jacks and Kings on pin-up playing cards already in the 1950's.
Even worse, on some playing cards, there have been wild animals on the court cards, which seems to suggest...something bad, I'd guess.
Yet, for some reason, that doesn't seem to have caused you much angst... which makes me suspect you're pretending to be a nutcase for reasons other than abnormal attachment to traditional playing cards designs.

Were they also socioeconomically neutral? i.e. losing the royalty aspect?

Hi Brad,
I'm not particularly concerned. I'm curious as to others opinions on the matter, and their reactions to the hypothetical questions posed in my initial post.
Thanks for the link to the picture of the cards, which are a very practical solution indeed. Although rather mundane to my eye.

Wow, quite an idea... Maybe a solution for a problem that does not exist in this very specific context?
But hey! Let's not stop halfway to full equality, okay? So what about those white naked angels on bikes?! Let's also have yellow buddhas on rickshaws and other spiritual idols on [insert your favorite vehicles here]! And why place tens over nines or gold over silver? Which powerful group of supremacists defines these things?? For a fully equal, socialist deck of cards, all cards should be equal (if not identical. Note: Magicians have owned these for a long tme. They are called force decks.) Also, everyone should be a winner in every game. And get a deck for free!

What an insincere statement. You're trying really hard to make an issue out of absolutely nothing, seemingly in order to make some vague point about SoCiaL jUsTicE WarRiOrs coming for your decks of cards, then when people take the bait and espouse the reactionary rhetoric you were too cowardly to just come out and say yourself, you hide behind "I'm just curious what people think."
Well congratulations, you got the reaction you wanted.

Hi Roger,
What a lovely sentiment.
I get the feeling that you are a good, and kind person. Someone with a positive outlook on life.
One of my favourite songs is ''Why Worry'' by Dire Straits:
[Chorus]
Why worry, there should be laughter after pain
There should be sunshine after rain
These things have always been the same
So why worry now?
Why worry now?
Will.

This deck ranks Gold and Silver (pure precious metals) over Bronze (an alloy/mixture of base metals). The clear implication of the superiority of racial purity over racial mixing, and the statement it makes about mixed-race people, is not anything I want to be associated with.

These cards have placed lesbian Billie Jean King into the male role of King, thus suppressing and rejecting her femininity. Kind of homophobic, don't you think?

A young lady in Israel raised over half a million dollars with an indiegogo campaign to create a deck where the Queens were equal to the Kings and 2 Jacks were replaced by 2 Princesses. Now she's well past her goal on a second version, with more ethnicities represented:

And one of yesterday's news stories was about Hasbro making "Mr." Potato Head gender neutral.

Looks like another ugly, poorly drawn deck that I'll ignore along with 99% of other new decks.

Blackjack has already solved the "problem" via the rules.

I'd prefer to see more characters involved. Where's the king's advisor? The plague doctor? The executioner?
