Re: George Goebel has passed away.
I had never known of him before. Here's a wonderful piece in the Baltimore Sun detailing the rich tapestry that was his life on this planet:

I felt nostalgic when I read that "he was given his first A.C. Gilbert Mysto Magic Set on a Christmas morning." My first magic set was a "Sneaky Pete" set, and I received it on a Christmas morning when I was 6 years old, not long after my first visit to a magic store in Brooklyn. It was during that visit that I realized I wanted to become a magician. I hope he is performing his magic in the great magical beyond...

I was unable here in Europe to follow the link to the Baltimore Sun....but I found this a very interesting link to learn more about George Goebel: http://themagicofbaltimore.blogspot.com ... oebel.html

Confused, I thought as I read this "I thought he passed away years ago" ... and ... "I didn't think he was a magician".

Wrong George Gobel.

Does video of his show exist? I saw it at the IBM convention in DC in 1976 or '77 (forget which), and it burned a wonderful memory in my adolescent brain.

Re: George Goebel has passed away.
Magic has her own secret ways. The other day, I was browsing through my files when I came across a 1985 issue of Magic Manuscript featuring George Goebel. Incidentally, this issue was signed on the front page to a fellow German collector by Goebel, stating “May your life be filled with the Wonders of Magic.”
Inside the issue you will find ten pages dedicated to Goebel, including a biography and an interview. The latter closes with five basic things he has learned during his magical career. They are all valid, but I like the very last one best:
"It’s not in the crates that you carry a magic show, it’s in the spirit of the people that you are working with."
Well said, Mr. Goebel! Rest in Peace.
