Scotty York

Postby Tom Gilbert » December 29th, 2019, 9:29 pm

Just wondering. When Scotty passed, I had read that Denny Haney owned the rights to Scotty's magic. Now that he's gone, does anyone know what's become of them? Scotty had some interesting items, it'd be too bad to see them fade into oblivion.

It's complicated and the current state of the rights is not clear.

That, sadly, seems to be a theme with the rights of magicians who have passed.

Hear, hear Tom! York's magic may go extinct like Garcia's material.

I talked to Denny about this when I was buying all the Scotty York stuff years ago. What I remember was that the rights were actually owned by Scotty's ex-wife. I don't remember if it was part of a divorce settlement or whatever. I do remember that Denny told me that he could only sell what he had and that once what he had was gone there would be no more.

That's not true. They were owned by a third party as part of a legal settlement.

That was the general conversation but I remembered it as being his ex-wife. It was 20 years ago.
