Record setting Jerry's Nugget cards kickstarter?

A kickstarter campaign for Jerry's Nugget cards seems likely to set a record for magic related crowdfunding campaigns. With a goal of $15,000, it is already more than 16 times past that goal and likely to pass the quarter million $ mark on its first day:

This is not an endorsement of the campaign or the cards, just something I'm watching with interest and thought others might like to follow as well.

Thanks, Richard!
FWIW, there are some "first day" discounts limited to the first 24 hours. Also, some interesting stretch goals, including a gaff deck, specially printed variant decks (including personalizing the card case to you), vinyl brick case, etc.

According to the project page, this one is run by the Expert Playing Card Company/Bill Kalush.

The project also offers a long "special thanks to" list, featuring, among others, Lee Asher, Danny Garcia, the Buck Twins, David Blaine, Garrett Thomas, Harapan Ong, Michael Weber, and the Chief Genii. Wondering what nuggets all theses gentlemen contributed?

As of now, this pledge already has 3,500+ supporters and is approaching 400,000 US$... Amazing!

Which comes to show again that us majishuns are a nostalgic, money-blowing, loveable herd of unimaginative copy cats.
Soon, magic videos and magazine photos shall be littered with this cheap, inelegant, eye-cancer causing design. Yuk!
(Just my opinion. I better hide now before Jerry's Nuggeteers spread all over me to cut me and palm me off.)

What are your thoughts on the collectible value of original Jerry’s Nuggets decks once the reprints hit the market?

The Kickstarter offered a limited edition product with one original Jerry’s Nuggets deck (one deck for about $400 if you factor in the other products included) from a reliable source as they stated there has been some fraudulent ones on the resale market.

It seems to me the reprints flooding the market will satisfy the demand for these rare cards. In addition, I believe it will be even easier for fraud to creep into the resale market of original Jerry’s Nuggets. This may spell the end of this gold rush for these Nuggets.

It is a double edge sword but i think that the people that collect the originals will always want to collection the originals. Would a collector prefer an original Picasso or a lithograph?... These new reprints will serve a different need. I have contributed towards this Kickstarter campaign and i also have some original Nugget decks....

This little sucker closed at 477,000+ U.S.$ by almost 4,100 supporters.

Somebody found a lot of nuggets there!

Agreed. I'm always amazed at how many people love this horrendously ugly design.

Objects have the power to transport us to another time and place. These decks evoke a time in the late 60s, and early 70s before Vegas fell under the control of corporations and became "Disneyfied." That moment in time is perfectly encapsulated in the 1971 Bond film Diamonds are Forever. It was a magical time in Vegas when casino patrons were well dressed and the Rat Pack was still vivid.

It was also a magical time for the Castle where the Professor, Miller, Cossari, Jennings, Cervon, and Wilson hung out in the evenings to discuss and perform magic. A deck of Nuggets would most likely be seen in the hands of one of these gentlemen. These decks have that vibe, and the back design is totally cool.

Let‘s see how the practitioners of cardistry will react to this design. I think they pretty much define what‘s cool in playing card design today and what isn‘t.

If you're a cardist who likes the look of the Jerry's Nuggets, then you probably already own a few bricks of THESE.
I have to admit, they're every bit as beautiful as the originals.

Haha, funny that you mention these, Brad! I also referred to them in my original blog post at http://www.zzzauber.com.
