AMA Awards

Postby Dustin Stinett » May 8th, 2019, 3:33 pm

Hi All,
So sorry for the late post, but I have been sidelined by some damn flu/virus/nasty-assed cold. I could not attend the Academy of Magical Arts Awards Show this year. It's the first one I've missed in many years, and of course it was, by all accounts, brilliant. John Lovick will have coverage of it in the next issue of Genii. In the meantime, here are the winners and honorees:

Magician of the Year - David Blaine
Close-Up Magician of the Year - Brian Gillis
Parlour Magician of the Year - Mike Pisciotta
Stage Magician of the Year - Steve Valentine
Lecturer of the Year - Rob Zabrecky
Award of Merit - Brian Tolman
Award of Merit - Dal Sanders
Award of Merit - Shin Lim
Creative Fellowship - Lennart Green
Junior Achievement Award - Fernando Velasco
Junior Achievement Award - Franco Pascali
Junior Achievement Award - Rabby Yang
Lifetime Achievement Fellowship - Harry Lorayne
Literary and Media Fellowship - Magicana (Julie Eng & David Ben & Allan Slaight)
Masters Fellowship - Johnny Hart
Performing Fellowship - Bill Malone
Special Fellowship - Mitsunobu Matsuyama

It's really nice that the AMA members chose to give Brian Gillis a posthumous award during the same (award) year he passed.
(Has that ever happened before?)

There have been quite a few posthumous Fellowships bestowed (Johnny Hart this year, and he did find out days before his death. As for the member-voted awards, not that I am aware of, but we are talking about 51 years' worth of awards being handed out.
