Piet Forton (1938 - 2019)

Postby Richard Hatch » May 2nd, 2019, 2:39 am

According to an email just received from Wittus Witt of Germany, Swiss magician and FISM winner Piet Forton (Pieter de Beaufort) passed away a few days ago. He often attended FFFF and was always fun to visit with and watch perform. Another legend passes...

Is there any video footage of him working? I’m familiar with his printed material but haven’t seen any examples of him in action.

There is a DVD put out by International Magic (MacMillan) a few years ago with his lecture. There are also videos of his younger self performing (if I remember right, in his jester costume), but I don't think they are commercially available.

I am so sorry to hear of Piet's passing. For a few years he would come to visit me for a few days and delivered some lectures at my place. Piet was a really nice guy and a fine magician, but certainly more than a bit opinionated. I will miss him.

At 19:14 you can see him perform his famous pop-out move.

Thanks for that. Those manip acts and their music are an interesting artifact of another age.

That is sad.

I often thought about Piet due to something Richard Kaufman once wrote. He wrote that Piet was working on a very ambitious magic project that he wasn't sure was possible to pull off.

I always wondered what that was - and I wonder now if we will ever know at all?

It was a magic theater.
