Ring & Chain trick - Is this a new principle?

Postby Joe Mckay » November 23rd, 2018, 7:09 pm

The principle used here is a novel one.

Does anyone know if this is a new trick? Or one that everyone (except me) already knows about?

As far as I know it's as old as sand. It's the final stage of the Mark Leveridge ring and rope routine (so published there at least), but certainly not new.

Cheers, Ian.

That is an area I have yet to study.

Yes, seen that in many ring routines before. I always found it to be a bit knacky to get it 100% of the time.

Those interested in topological puzzles might do well to check out the magazine The Metagrobologist.

Considering it is Newton's Third Law, I'd say it's been around for a while. :D

Though, like Joe, it was new to me until I first came across it.

Whoever wrote the blurb for that clip doesn't understand Newton's Laws...

It seems to be a creation by Rink.

See Rink's Rope and Ring Penetrations by Lewis Ganson

May be you can find it before in The Gen in the 60s
