It's horrible when it happens to anyone, but especially when it happens to you: your magic equipment gets stolen. This week on The Magic Word podcast, we hear the tales of woe from over a Baker's Dozen of magicians who have had their magic stuff stolen. All are sad tales but some are funny, some are inspiring while others are particularly tragic, but all are short, cautionary tales we can learn from on how better to protect our stuff from similar outcomes. Guests include: Taylor Martin, Lynx Kim, Rudy Coby, Christopher Hannibal, Sebastian Tabany, Michael Night, Dan Garrett, Russell Anderson, Andrew Payne, James Harrison, Richard "the Magician" Ribuffo, Jr., Michael Kaminskas, Mike Segal, and Ron Wilson.
There are several others I would have loved to have heard from but schedules and timing just didn't work out. I also know that many of you have suffered losses due to theft. When I posted the subject on our Facebook page (http://facebook.com/themagicwordpodcast), I received many people who had either had stuff stolen or recommended that I talk with so-and-so about their stuff that was stolen. If I didn't hear from you, then perhaps you need to join the discussion and "Like" our Facebook page.
You can see photos of those on the podcast, hear the podcast online, contribute to a crowd funding project for one magician, and download the MP3 file at: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/sco ... 60-seconds

I'd be curious to know how these experiences compare with other kinds of variety performers.

Re: Gone in 60 Seconds
I know of a professional magician who stored his custom made Vanishing Bird Cage in the trunk of his car stored in a sturdy suitcase for many years. It was rather heavy and he performed regularly so he didn’t want to load and unload it. One day, his car was stolen and when the car was found and returned to him, he opened the trunk and it was gone.

Interesting idea for a podcast, Scott. Good stories, but sort of depressing. Big takeaway for many of the anecdotes is: don't leave stuff in your car. (That and don't bring your magic stuff to the porn shop).
A GF Forumite and I were recently discussing this topic as well, but in the context of magicians who steal your stuff at magic conventions. Michael Close has an interesting story regarding that issue on his website. https://www.michaelclose.com/blogs/news-1

I'm interested in stories/warnings/tips about traveling by air (domestically) with equipment. Both checking baggage and carry on.
