Magic In The Big Apple

Postby Scott Wells » April 12th, 2018, 11:50 am

New York City has a rich history of magic and magicians. On this week's podcast, Richard Cohn, David Kaye and Herb Scher talk about some of the people and places that have influenced the local magic scene. Richard is an authority on Coney Island and tells stories about the "Coney Island Fakir", Al Flosso, as well as some of the local magic shops past and present like Martinka's, Holden's, Tannen's and Fantasma and some of the people working there.

David Kaye and Herb Scher are also working with this year's "109th Salute to Magic" which will be held this coming Saturday, April 14th. David talks about the line-up and Herb talks about some of the magicians who have been honored over the years. They also talk about the fascinating history of the S.A.M. Parent Assembly #1 which is sponsoring the event.

This podcast includes a lot of history that will be of interest to magic historians and, of course, will remain in The Magic Word Podcast archives. If you plan to visit New York City (NYC), then this might also serve as a "magic travel guide" of things to see and do while you are in "The Big Apple". But this podcast is also time sensitive in that there is a contest for FREE tickets to see this weekend's "109th Salute to Magic". The contest will only run to the next 48 hours, so if you live in or near NYC or plan to travel there this weekend (or know someone who will), then be sure to go to the website NOW to enter for a chance to win two adult priced tickets to the show.

You can read the blog, see some photos, enter the contest, listen to the podcast online, and download the MP3 file at: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/sco ... -big-apple

And speaking of contests, congratulations to the winners of Nate Staniforth's new book, "Here Is Real Magic": David Thornburg, Bob Hale and Tim Glander. Thanks, guys, for entering the contest. Enjoy the book. And for those who didn't win but would like to buy a copy of the book, please consider purchasing your copy through Amazon.com by following The Magic Word affiliate link here: https://www.amazon.com/Here-Real-Magic- ... 163286424X

Congratulations to...uh, no one. There was not one entry for the free tickets to tonight’s Salute to Magic. Either no one in NYC listened to the recent podcast yet or they just don’t care nor plan to go. Maybe it’s the weather??? I’m sure the show will be successful and I hope it will be well attended.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the rest of the podcast about magic history in NYC.
