This is the lousy movie version of the show, which went unreleased for decades (and for good reason). It does not reflect what it was like to see the show. I know--I was there.

I wish I had seen the show with Henning in New York. I saw it when it came to LA, but the lead was being played by some other dude (Dino?)

I believe the LA star of the Magic show was Peter De Paula

Peter was the star in the touring version of the show.

Thanks, guys! (Was Peter De Paula a magician who acted in the show or primarily an actor? What ever happened to him?)

Re: Doug Henning's The Magic Show on Amazon Prime
De Paula seems to have first come onto the scene when he was part of the touring company for The Magic Show -- I can't find any references to him elsewhere before that. But after that, he did work as a magician for several years, appearing often at the Magic Castle. Usually it was "Peter de Paula and Katlyn", and Katlyn was Katlyn Breene, who went on to do the cover art for a number of Todd Karr's books.

Cool. Thanks, Bill!
Re: Doug Henning's The Magic Show on Amazon Prime
It may be a poor representation of the show (and musically it's VERY "of its time") but my god the attention to detail, the nuances, the subtleties and the sheer technical prowess of the stage magic is astonishingly good; far higher than it needed to be and leagues ahead of 99% of the "big" magic presented by magicians since. I've watched it though twice now and i'm still finding little moments of brilliance and precision in Doug's work but also in every element of the production built around him.

The current Haversat and Ewing auction has a couple of lots related to Doug Henning.
