I haven't seen this posted yet: Amazon lists a new book by magic scholars Jim Steinmeyer and Peter Lamont, which is announced for publication in mid-July 2018, "The Secret History of Magic: The True Story of the Deceptive Art."

What to expect:
Two renowned historians of stage magic team up to produce this definitive, engaging history of stage magic, from Ancient Egypt to David Copperfield. Fifty glorious illustrations throughout.

368 pages, ready for pre-order. There will also be a Kindle edition.

Looking forward to this tome!

This book only has one review on Amazon, and it's a harsh two stars.

Richard K., might you add your review from GoodReads to balance it out?

I just picked this book up at Barnes & Noble. There was one copy. It was filed under "Paganism."

I liked the discussion of Maskelyne and Devant's book "Our Magic".
Is there some background discussion or evidence of a draft which reads more as "On Magic"?
