My package arrived on Friday and let me say that I was expecting less this time around from what Karl said about the new manuscript but was surprised when no less than four manuscripts of varying sizes arrived with assorted props.
I was doubly amazed when I red that Karl is refunding all subscriptions and going to the Honor System. When you believe you have received $150 worth, then you send him a check to cover it. So lets look at the breakdown of that $150.00.
10 issues of Lowdown plus 10 issues of Errata, bonus issues and effects plus props, all for $150. That balances out to $15 an issue. plus priority mail shipping of $11. That leaves Karl $4 to produce the manuscripts and purchase the props. Get the picture? This is a labor of love to Karl, not a profit machine. The material is interesting and even if you don't use anything in your act, the process of working through an effect will teach you to not simply stop when you come up with an idea, but to work through it until you find the gem.
I for one am sending my check immediately and not waiting until I've got my moneys worth, as I got my moneys worth years ago from Karl. This manuscript, perhaps the last, is a gift as far as I'm concerned.

Re: New Karl Fulves Pubs
Has any new material in Karl Fulves' Lowdown project been published since issue 1 back in May?
Re: New Karl Fulves Pubs
Did anyone else not receive their first issue? or am I the only one. I sent (what I thought) was a very nice
note to Karl
"I very kindly received a note from you in October 2014, saying that
my check for your most recent periodical was cashed. I understand from
the on-line forums that you have sent out the 1st issue, but I have
not yet received a package and I am concerned that it might have
been lost. If I should have received it by now, please let me know
how I might replace the lost issue. I would also like to
take this time to purchases a few additional manuscripts."
No answer, notta, nothing.
Any advice?

Has anybody received any Lowdown-related materials in the past year since issue 1?

Re: New Karl Fulves Pubs
Has anyone heard anything from Karl Fulves lately?
A couple months ago I sent him an SASE requesting a list of what he has currently for sale, a request about subscribing to his current magazine, and some Charles Jordan material that was not in his big book.
I didn't get a response at all, and am wondering if he is still selling stuff, and if he is okay.

I think Fulves is probably quite elderly at this point (if Harry Lorayne is 92). They did not seem far apart in age when I first met them in 1972. Who knows what's going on with his health and so on.

Also, one of his kids died not too long ago. That can really suck the enthusiasm out of whatever it is you do.

Fulves was born in 1939 I think.

Re: New Karl Fulves Pubs
That would make him 79, but I believe he's older than that.
When I first met Harry and Karl (in the same year, up at Tannen's) neither struck me as younger or older than the other. My memory may be playing tricks on me.

Re: New Karl Fulves Pubs
Well, I wouldn't state anything about Fulves with certainty. He doesn't like anything to be known about him. He very well may be older. Wasn't he said to have been about 16-18 when he took over the Phoenix from Jay Marshall?
Even if he was in his 20s when he did Pallbearers Review, that is very impressive.

Re: New Karl Fulves Pubs
The research I did for my Karl Fulves talk at The History Gathering at The Magic Circle and the European Magic History Conference several years ago gave Fulves' birthdate as 27 July, 1939, which would make him 78. (I don't remember where I found the date.)

Re: New Karl Fulves Pubs
Fulves is as old as Matt Field, 5 years older and with enough left over to make 13.
