The Linking Ring for April reports the death of Elbert Gardner on August 18, 2014. He was a magician I befriended after I retired and went to live for a year near Albany, New York.

Elbert was a gentle soul with a deep interest in magic. He invented quite a few effects, most notably the Shogun Wallet, named and marketed by Al Cohen, Washington, D.C. magic shop owner, Genii columnist and demonstrator extraordinaire. The Shogun wallet is a very clever switching wallet. When I admitted to an ionterest in gaffed wallets, Elbert invited me to his home so he could present me with one.

Elbert used to attend the Capital City (New York) IBM Ring meetings which is where we got acquinted.

He will be missed.
