Re: Banachek, the Mentalist, on "The Supernaturalists"
"As a friend and business partner, African American mentalist, Banachek has joined me on dozens of podcasts over the years on The Magic Word. "
While Banachek was born in Africa, I find this introduction accurate yet interesting. What is your reason for using African American as an adjective to describe Banacheck? Do you think it provides information that helps to identify him or potential lead to confusion? Not trying to be critical, just questioning as I have never seen African American used to describe a non black person.

Yep, definitely not African American in the typical political known sense.
I was born in England by the way, In Middlesex, left at age of 9, abandoned in South Africa with my two brothers a year and 3 years old, went to school in South Africa till I was almost 16 then headed to Australia.. short period there and then to the USA the rest of my life.
So in a sense, I guess I am African American but would not describe it that way.
I am guessing Scott was in a hurry when he typed that line. And nothing nefarious meant just a simple typo mistake that could be taken two ways.

Re: Banachek, the Mentalist, on "The Supernaturalists"
Well, Brad, the website for "The Supernaturalists" refers to Banachek as "from South Africa" so I thought it seemed an accurate appellation for continuing the international hype for the troupe. No disparagement was intended towards him or Americans not born in Africa. Though he was born in England, he was raised in South Africa then moved the America. And by the way, I have heard the actress, Charlize Theron, referred to as an African American since she was born in Africa and is a U.S. citizen.

And, BTW, I don't mean to spark controversy, so I edited the blog. Banachek was right (as usual), there was nothing nefarious intended. Thanks, Brad, for your comments.

So, Banachek is British. End of story.

actually no, my father was an American GI, so I am both British and American, born on an American base with both British and American passports. I was raised in South Africa for a large portion of my life.

International mentalist seems the most accurate, fitting title. And not a bad one to boot
