I once saw Johnny Ace Palmer lecture on preparing for a magic contest.

He didn't cover this.

Amazing, people were clapping! A good act probably would have been booed off the stage. This video says as much about the current level of audiences and it says about the performers. Sad.

Context is everything.

This was part of the annual "Two Minutes Contest" at the Taiwan Magicians Association convention. Contestants are expected to put together brief routines that are silly. This one clearly fit the premise, hence the great reaction.

Had it been done in the actual contest, or in a gala, I can assure you the response would have been quite different.

So, to judge this as having anything to do with the current quality -- or style -- of magic in Taiwan is misguided.

I have attended the TMA convention for the past five years, so I was there in 2011 when this was taped. But, I didn't see it, as I don't go to the "Two Minutes" show, because I finished my college phase many years ago.
