That almost seemed like a SNL satire.

Coming soon to a barn in the entertainment mecca of Porterville, CA!

Witness a saddening performance by the self-proclaimed “Most Honored Woman in the History of Magic.”

“…featuring many never before seen illusions” including a Substitution Trunk without a substitution and a nervous ball dangling from a thread!

The only people who have never seen these illusions are blind - and fortunate.

Randy and the Ragrunts, eh? That sounds wrong on so many levels.

The only good thing about that is that she kept her clothes on.

All kidding aside, she really needs to work on that floating ball routine. The method was so obvious.

I can't believe this is anything other than someone paying off a lost wager. It reminds me of one the commercials they used to run on SCTV.

Why make a point of jiggling the hasp on the crate when you don't put a padlock on it?

Wasn't the solo subtrunk used as a gag in Burt Wonderstone?

True. But that should not hinder people from celebrating that, yes, karma does occationally work as it should.

It's sadder that she thinks she is still of any interest. To anyone.

If you are such a fan, what was it you liked about the video? The dreadful wobbly ball levitation? The non-ironic 'un'sub trunk? The bad dancing? Do enlighten us as to what we are missing that is of any merit.

Regretfully, that occasionally is becoming pervasive. Just plain ugly!

When looked at minus anybodies (now obvious) agenda, this is simply a thread highlighting a group of male magicians mocking and ridiculing a female magician based on her age and her appearance.

There are some peripheral comments on skills, but only as asides to the copious insults.

Not to press the point of what "karma" actually means, but there is no invitation to humiliate implicit within the definition of karma.

So you guys own 100% of your juvenile and cruel comments dispensed with no other intent but to humiliate, embarrass, and disparage ... no karma involved.

Good job boys! ... what aging female magic personality are you going to choose to attack next?

You are wrong, Roger.

Nobody has mentioned aged or appearance.

The only thing being criticised is the performance (and choice) of tricks.

Still - I think the comments are a little cruel. Show Business is a hard place - and it must be extremely difficult to reinvent yourself 30+ years after being in the business.

Also - I don't know the exact situation with Jonathan and Charlotte. But this talk about "karma" seems uncalled for - since I thought there was no lingering ill will between the pair of them.

I am a huge fan of Jonathan Pendragon. I think he is one of the smartest people in magic. And it doesn't surprise me that somebody's work would suffer from not having such a talent to work with anymore.

Well, I have no dog in this fight, don't know Charlotte or why she would be the recipient of any karmic retribution, and I have no problem with aging females who want to perform.

But this video is an embarrassment by any standards. Really bad tricks, poorly performed, tacky presentation, and absurd choreography. No one here was humiliating her, she humiliated herself by releasing such a ridiculous trailer to the public. Should we only comment on males who make cheesy, unprofessional promotional pieces? Or should all unprofessional cheesy promotional videos be allowed to stand without comments.

I agree that this place can be cruel. This isn't one of those times. this was just a normal reaction to a really poorly thought out presentation.

But pointing out conjuring deficiencies, and attacking the person in the video for their appearance remain two very different things.

When reinventing yourself, you have to start somewhere..

JP has reinvented himself as a poet, with basically the same illusions he's has been doing for years.

Charlotte is trying something new after years of being part of the magic team.

I wish both great success, as I do for every other magician.

Magic has to reinvent itself every few years too. Look at how Doug Henning and DC changed magic. Then Blaine took it into a different direction.

Im not 25 anymore and it's not 1985.... Everyone has to change for these times.. it's 2014... soon to be 2015...

The performer in black thing was big in the mid 1990s. Are there technical reasons for choosing a dark production design, especially for costume?

From what I saw in the video, she is not a very good professional magician. I think she can book some low level gigs but not more than that in my opinion.

I think a better strategy would be to use her notarity and lend here name to a show of upcoming female magicians. She could act as the MC and do a little magic too. I think that is a better idea than what is on the video tape.

Should we instead adopt a "little league" mentality where everyone gets a bat and we don't keep score of runs? I don't care about the performer's gender or her age. That video is a poor showcase of skills and no one should feel compelled to hold back criticism if they feel compelled to comment...this is a message board and people comment on things...good and bad. The video wasn't stolen from a private collection, never intended for public viewing. If it was a child performing I'm sure the viewers would have taken that into consideration before commenting.

I cant say that Ms. Pendragon's performance/promotional vid was any better or any worse than those put out by hundreds of magicians who similarly self-promote themselves. It was creepy , humorous and, dare I say, entertaining in it's own unique way. And despite what a few friends have said who have also watched the clip, I think the puppet guy fits perfectly with the flavor of the show...creepy and humorous in a strangely entertaining kind of way.

I have a fraction of a fraction of stage performance experience that Ms. Pendragon has and I can honestly that say she probably puts my act to shame a thousand times over based on what is obviously her best attribute...stage presence and personality. For those who support the idea that it is more important for the audience to remember the magician first and the magic second, Ms. Pendragon deserves to have positive reviews in that department.

It is commendable that magician's will come out of the woodwork to critique performances ranging from the magician at the local county fair to those who have appeared in national and international television specials and talent shows. It keeps folks who actually perform magic outside the confines of magic clubs and conventions on their toes when constructing their own individual acts.

Personally, the magicians who I was first exposed to as a kid were the older gents in powder blue tuxedos whose stages were overflowing with props and tables. Sometimes it was painfully obvious as to how the ball floated behind the foulard, or where the rabbit was before it appeared from the top hat, but there was still a genuine feeling of being entertained after the magician took their final bow. Its the same feeling I had after watching the Pendragon video...I'll be the first to admit that I like creepy and humorous. If not, I wouldn't be sitting in a room during the majority of my free time stocked with magic books, DVD's, and hundreds of tricks that have ironically kept my sanity intact through some painful and challenging times.

Sorry you're confused. She chose to advertise her dreadful wonder ball with a naked advert in the magazines. Hence my reference to her keeping her clothes on being the best part.

But don't let your ignorance stop you having a pop at me because you failed to get my reference. If you need a step ladder to get down from your high horse, let me know.

And the karma comments are about all the money she stole from people.

Despite Damian's comments on her ads, for a woman who deep into her fifties, she looks pretty good.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with anything, except it is usually more enjoyable to watch a performance by an attractive person than one who isn't, all else being equal.

For any professional, three of the worst words that can be said about you are "Whatever happened to". I think there was a reality show that used this theme.

Our egos can become so sensitive that we refuse to abandon what we imagine ourselves to be capable of, even when it might be obvious to some that our best days are behind us and it would be better to do something different. I think there's a new emphasis in psychology and depression that is examining those who can't overlook the myth of their own potential.

As Tom's most recent post indicates, years of attempts and ill-gotten financing has not improved her situation. I work in retail. This video would represent an improvement in my magic career. For Ms. Pendragon, I think retail is where her talents are best-suited.

I Have to Agree w/ Rick Ruhl , You have to start somewhere .

I have yet to see anyone in the field of magic who has not 'Stumbled " along the way in one way ...Or another.

The Peddragons were w/ out doubt the Formost artist of grand illusion for at least 20 yrs ......Thank you both for those wondefful Moments, Let these 2 kind people try to find some peace & happuness in their lives as they attempt to move forward

It is now 2014, and they are both attempting to reinvent themselves , Not an easy thing to do , They are both "Pros' and time will tell. Can we at the very least give them that time?

Yes ,by now we are A L L aware that Char has made some HUGE Stumbles , This is bound to happen as a newly Single woman . Many Single mothere's have done a hell of a lot worse. Lets give her the benefit of the doubt here .

To Johnathan & Char The Pendragons - Thanks for thr memories.

Both have made their mistakes and both deserve second chances. It seems while the magic community is accepting that John has moved forward, many still want to take stabs at Charlotte.

This seems silly, as they are both HUMAN's like us, and they make mistakes, like all of us.

But to make not only sexist but insulting comments is just totally wrong. It's petty and immature. Wait until the show is out and critique the show, not the person.

After, it's just a magic act, not a war in the middle east.
