This is a great damn book. Those of you lucky enough to buy one of the less than 100 copies of the first edition that Roberto sold at the Genii Bash know how good it is. This new edition in hardcover is even better, and contains a DVD with Roberto's lecture from the Genii Bash.

Delighted that my five copies arrived today in Manchester, England.
Non US magicians may not realise that with the Heretical Press, orders over $200 get free international shipping, so do as I did and get a few friends together who want the book, or a selection of their other titles.
The pre-publication special offer on the Deck Switching book expires on Sunday, 21st.

Yes, if you think of Stephen Minch as the Martin Luther of magic

Heretical Press?
Careful, some books are dangerous and not to be opened with impunity.

Their next book is a special issue of Gibiciere, a translation of a 15th century Spanish manuscript by Torquemada called "Burnt and Restored Apostate".

Dustin,
I'm stranded half-way 'round the world. Thanks for the heads-up on the new Giobbi book. I just ordered one from Heretic Press. I've rarely seen a deck switch done well. I'm deadly certain Mssr. Giobbi will have good stuff in his book.

Well, that's the issue. If you see it, it wasn't done well.
Don't know about you, Kent, but Giobbi fooled the doody out of me with his lecture at the Genii Bash.

I was up to 2:30 last night reading my copy. Couldn't put it down. That should tell you:
a) how great the material is... and
b) how sad my life is...

I found the DVD not only helpful, but fun to watch. I wasn't able to attend the Genii Bash, but several of my friends were able to go, and the Giobbi lecture was one of the highlights for them. To be able to see what they saw was quite fun, and it was great not seeing the decks switches.

Re: Switching Decks with Giobbi
I just finished my first reading of "The Art of Switching Decks" and viewing of the DVD. This is a fantastic reference! Well organized, well-written and well illustrated with plenty of photographs to make clear the specific techniques described in the text. I will be incorporating at least three of these deck switches in the next few months.
The DVD was also very helpful. I personally find this the best way to learn - a combination of DVD teaching and in-depth written explanations.
IMHO, if you perform card magic this book is a must read!

Re: Switching Decks with Giobbi
I'm over halfway through the book and think it's great. I knew it would be as I was fortunate enough to have attended Giobbi's lecture at the Genii Bash. Something that occurred to me after looking over the references at the end of the book, is why there are no references to the deck switches of Simon Aronson. For example, "Sideswiped" can end with a deck switch. "Below the Belt" is another excellent trick-based way to switch a deck. I realize Giobbi didn't intend for the book to be encyclopedic, but Aronson's work with the memorized deck and ways to switch it in extend back decades and are important contributions.

Knowing a little of Stephen's interests, I think he will find the confusion of heretic and hermetic quite amusing.

Richard, yes I found the DVD to be quite helpful. Funny thing is after watching the lecture I'm more "in sync" with the material so even the switches that weren't featured on the DVD were more crystalized in my mind after watching it.
Great stuff.

Re: Switching Decks with Giobbi
After watching the lecture and seeing the initial version of the manuscript that Roberto sold at the Genii Bash, I knew that a DVD of the lecture should go into the book. I made it available to them and happily they accepted my offer. The text and video complement each other very well.
