The Final Piece of the Genii Convention Puzzle: GUY HOLLINGWORTH JUST BOOKED!

Postby Richard Kaufman » July 10th, 2012, 6:17 pm

Surprise!
I bet you thought we were done announcing artists, but there was one more person I've been waiting to hear from ...

... and today Guy Hollingworth confirmed that he will be appearing at Genii's 75th Anniversary Birthday Bash. Guy will be giving a 90-minute presentation consisting of a 25 minute close-up show followed by a 60 minute lecture. Guy has not appeared on the east coast for many years, nor has he presented a performance and lecture on his classic material for quite some time.

Really, there is only one more name that could be added that would make
it, for me, the most incredible lineup of any
convention I have ever attended or even seen advertised. I
know, however, that the name Im thinking of, no matter my
yearnings, wishes, dreams, prayers, last dying request, will never come.

Just think, though, of the names that are coming to this event. Huge stars
all in one place in the space of a few days. I suspect that it will be many
years before another gathering of this magnitude takes place.

Dustin,

For me it would be Paul Harris, but I think you may be hinting at David Berglas...

(I would also be happy to see Michael Ammar and Daryl)

That would be the icing on the cake for me :)

Richard, any chance of getting him to do his Erdnase show?

I hope Guy will consider performing his Erdnase show so more people will get a chance to see it. I saw it at The Magic Castle and it was a wonderful presentation.

My guess for Dustin's dream addition: Ricky Jay.

Best,
Alan

Just wondering: Has Mr. Jay ever performed/lectured at a general magic convention before?

For my part, I would love to attend a lecture by Dr. Diaconis or Mr. Freeman.

It would be Mr Berglas for me...

Performed, yes. A very, very long time ago. As for it happening again, or your other wish (and you are not alone), don't hold your breath!

Guy will not be presenting his Erdnase show--he did that as a feature at MAGIC Live several years ago.

What he will be doing, and which he has not done on the east coast of the United States in 10 or 15 years, is giving a performance of close-up magic followed by a lecture.

Ricky Jay performed at magic conventions (and entered contests!) when he was a child, wearing a Slydini-style outfit (search the Genii Archives for "Tricky Ricky" or "Ricky Potash"). As an adult he has never appeared at a magic convention and I think it is safe to say that he never will. Ditto for Steve Freeman and Persi Diaconis.

I tried my best to get Paul Harris to come, but he's a bit stage-shy these days.

Our line-up is pretty good and I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

What he will be doing...

How I wish that sentence had continued: "is to perform his slapstick comedy & balloon act".
Just to see the reactions. :)

Should read: "Understatement of the year(s)!" Or perhaps, of the century. :)

Sadly, my wife just reminded me that October follows September, rather than July.

And won.

The suit was hand made for Ricky by Slydini.

I forget the year, but Ricky performed at a table for famed actor, David Niven, at I believe FISM in Paris. I know, because I advised him on some of the material.
Stay tooned.

Somewhere I have that NPR interview with Ricky talking about the suit that Slydini made for him... Then he wanted to make a cane dance. How does that work in one of those toreador outfits? Its a great story.

Great line-up Richard!
