Dani DaOrtiz Book on his Memorized Stack Now Available in English

Postby Richard Kaufman » May 27th, 2012, 10:22 pm

Dani's a great guy--just spent some time with him at the IMX convention in Las Vegas.

His book on his stack is now available in English as an ebook here:

Dani was nice enough to email a copy to me last week, and it is well worth far more than the paltry 10 Euro price. There are other ebooks available in English as well as some videos. I asked Dani about his magazine, El Manuscrito, and was told that there are no plans to offer it in English. If you go to grupokaps.com and get the Spanish version, there is a small British flag on the top right that will change the page to English. He accepts Paypal, and your download appears instantly. His blog is also available in English via Google translation. He mentions IMX and has some photos posted on his Facebook page.

On page 21 they describe:
"To finalize the stack, we do two in-faros(22). If the faros are done correctly, the KS remains the bottom card of the deck."

Firstly the book seems to be missing figure 22.
Secondly, i thought the top and bottom cards changed during in in-faro.
Did he mean out-faro or have i got my terminology mixed up?

the way i understood it:
IN faro - the top and bottom cards are shuffled IN to the deck
OUT faro - the top and bottom cards remain on the OUTside of the deck

I should add that i have experimented and i needed to keep the king of spades on the bottom. However i would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction in terms of terminology.

thanks,

Sam

You have it right, i.e., and in-faro changes top and bottom cards while an out-faro maintains top and bottom cards in their original position.

"Mi Baraja Personal" (My Personal Deck or, in this case, My Personal Stack). It is listed in the Media section on the second page. Here's a more direct link:

Although the title is in Spanish, the book is available in an excellent English translation on the site. Recommended.

Richard,

Your tip gave me the gumption to download the Ortiz manuscript. I couldn't figure out how to get the download going once I'd ordered it.

When I decrypted the email they sent immediately when I ordered, via babelfish, I got this:

If purchased any download or subscription to the magazine, you can access to this in your purchase pane, by clicking on the 'Your account' option from the main menu,

That was enough for me.

Thanks for the link. It's exactly what I needed.

I was trying to upload this to my iPhone so I could check it out during my lunch break but had no luck. Has anyone else tried to view this via iPhone?
Thanks, Joe

I have two questions regarding this item from DaOrtiz.

Is the "file" from www.grupokaps.com site (as linked above) an e-book or a PDF file? Does it differ from the lybrary.com file available a few months ago?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Can you clarify what you mean? "E-book" is a broad term, one which includes PDF files.

Does it differ from the lybrary.com file available a few months ago?

I doubt it. Lybrary.com posted it at the beginning of this month, about two weeks after it was initially mentioned here. The page count, ad copy, etc. is identical

Jim,

Thanks. I guess what I was curious about was whether I'd be able to print out the content, properly formatted, with the file I received from www.grupokaps.com? If it's a PDF then I'd expect to be able to do that unless the file is set-up to NOT print. If it's in one of the other e-book standards I realize I won't be able to print it out.

Thanks.

James

I had no trouble printing it. The file that Dani sent me, which I assume is the same as the download from GrupoKaps, is a 133 page PDF. If you are already well versed in the Tamariz or Aronson stack, I doubt that you will switch, but maybe. Like all of Dani's material, it is very clever.

It works great on the iPad and Droid X, so it should work on your phone.
