David Regal's Disposable Decks have many applications. One of David's favorites is "HOTEL 52," from Approaching Magic (and included with Disposable Deck).

David will award $100 to the person who posts what he thinks is the coolest use for Disposable Decks on YouTube by June 13th, 2012.

Upload your video 60 SECONDS OR LESS and name it "Disposable Deck Contest."

Please send a link to your video to regal@regalmagic.com.

You can also post links on this thread.

Here is a link to a video announcement of the contest:

I want to be fair to all - a young magician informed me that he wanted to enter the contest but couldn't purchase Disposable Decks at this time. My reply, which of course goes for everyone:

Well then I'll let you make a handmade gimmick and enter. Scan or copy the back of a card on a piece of paper, then cut cut around it so you can make a paper "shell" that looks like a deck of cards. That's what Disposable Decks are, but professionally printed (with sides also printed to look like the sides of a deck), then scored, die cut, and gummed. Your homemade one will be okay for the contest, though. Hope this helps.

Well, so far there's a fair chance the $100 will go to THE ONLY FREAKING ENTRY.

Rafael, I noticed that.

David posted it. Which I take it to mean he thinks it has potential even if 'over' the time limit.

However I believe that this guys routine can be done under the time limit if strict limit is imposed. There was added time in the front with titling. Also a lot of pauses that can be cleaned up. (if you watch the piece with the sound off you'll see the extraneous time spent)

I don't see John Signa posting anywhere in this thread. Jeff, what are you referring to?

Jeffs referring my vow to avoid card tricks for the month of June in an effort to diversify.
The DD stuff was done during brainstorming last Sunday, then edited/posted last night. So still haven't touched cards this month.

Richard, the last four entries in the contest are all from John.

And I had no idea he had mealworms at home.

I know there will be disagreements about which Disposable Deck effect I have chosen as the winner of the $100 prize, because the fact is there is no best. I was honestly moved by some of the very clever thinking that went on.

I loved how John Signa used Disposable Decks and a card box to transform a deck into seemingly anything. His trick with the fly is fantastic, as well as his other applications some foolers here (and so creative)! Tarun (finnile) has a great application where he steps on the deck to vanish all but the selection very practical and magical. I could go on.

I picked the winner for a reason not based on the quality of the video. I picked the winner for a reason that may seem subtle, but I felt was important. The winner is Jeff Eline.

Jeff Elines first entry has a framing concept, as do other entries, and uses a vanishing technique others found as well, but his particular combination of elements the stiff piece of paper that masks the visual and the auditory at different times, the sneaky stuff that takes the gimmick out of play, and most of all the distance, the sense of air that frames the moment of magic makes his vanish simply feel more amazing. I cant explain it better when that deck is GONE except for the selection, and the hands are so far away, its a kick-ass moment.

So Jeff, email me your address and Ill have my wife send you a check for $100. Then please dont communicate with her in any way.
