Matt, you've seen a lot of things in your lifetime. How amazing it must be to be not only one of the first adopters of The Edison Talking Machine, but also the iPad. I understand the folks at the Home will be preparing a special surprise for you tonight--supper without the chair restraints. Your friends wish they could there celebrating too, but apparently you've exceeded the one-visitor-a-month rule, so it'll be just you and the doctor.

Thank you, my friends. You too, Farmer.

I got a big surprise from David Berglas last night. He put on a 2 1/2 hour one-man show at The Magic Circle in which the denouement for a number prediction was the day's date and my age, and he also announced that I was giving up the editorship of The Magic Circular after the January issue, which will be the 80th I've edited.

Many people showed up with the new Berglas book in their hands, waiting for David to sign it. He did a half-hour's worth of material right from the book (but not THAT trick) and killed with it.

I'm honored to call him my friend, and honored to have been able to work on the book.

I had my dinner (Bread and Buddha) in your honor tonight.
Many happy returns...

Happy birthday from an equally old coot. I turned my XM radio to the 40s station earlier this evening (I'm usually parked at the 50s station) and heard a lively rendition of Lullaby of Broadway. I glanced down to see who was playing it. It was Richard Himber! So this is a gift idea to yourself and others of our generation. (I just checked, and there are over 70 Himber tunes available on iTunes. Lullaby of Broadway, played by him, was used in Woody Allen's Radio Days.) Anyway, thinking of you, to appropriate background sounds ...

Thanks, Steve, but I'm more of a Radiohead/Underworld fan myself.
