Academy of Magic Arts Final Award Nominees

Postby Richard Kaufman » March 1st, 2011, 1:25 pm

The Magic Castle (i.e., the Academy of Magical Arts) has just announced the finalists for this year's awards. I don't want this to sound demeaning to any of the talented artists who've been nominated, but am I the only one who notices that these same people keep getting nominated over and over again? The overwhelming majority of the nominated magicians seem to be from the Southern California area. Don't lots of out-of-town people get booked as well? Why aren't we seeing them nominated?

It's worth mentioning that Doc Eason was originally nominated for Lecturer, but declined. His reason was that he'd already won in 2009 with the same lecture he did in 2010. His goal is to win again in the future with a new lecture. Doc is a class act.

Congratulations to all the nominees!

Dustin

How in the world can someone who already won doing a lecture, even be nominated a second time for doing the same lecture? That doesn't make any sense.

First, congratz to all of the nominees.

Most of us out-of-towners can only afford to go and work the Castle once every few years. Whenever I can save up enough money I'll go and work it again!
Magically,

Simple: Those who saw the lecture in 2009 didn't go to the 2010 lecture, so he had a different group. But it doesn't matter; he declined.

Has a performer won twice in the same performing category, doing essentially the same act?

Performers who have won twice in the same performing category have almost always won for essentially the same act.

In fact some performers have won in different performing categories for essentially the same act.

Some of us are still trying to save up enough to work it the first time.
