Yann Frisch is nothing sort of brilliant.

He performed his close up act on the largest stage in Europe on Saturday and received a spontaneous standing ovation from 3,000 people.

Dodd, I'll catch you on Skype over the next day or two and give you the skinny. Didn't get a chance to record anything and burnt the candle at both ends so a little tired as you can imagine but will see if you about later.

That should have been 'nothing short of brilliant'.

Yann Frisch's act and 'Cubic' were fantastic. The Bernard Bilis lecture was inspirational. I had a great time at Blackpool, spending time with Richard Kaufman and Paul Wilson and his son, along with Ian Kendall, seeing old friends like Jay Sankey and John Bannon.

Now back to work editing The Magic Circular.

Although by no means comprehensive I have thrown a few words together on Blackpool for IrishMagicNews which you can read here - http://bit.ly/foB1Mo

Found a video of Yann performing his routine that won via a twitter post by Rob James. I imagine this isn't going to stay up long as i am sure Yann won't want to overexpose himself.

Unless you really really have to watch this I wouldn't as he will probably be appearing at every convention in the coming years and it is an act that deserves to be seen live.

Oh and by the way there was a twitter hashtag #blackpool2011 which might give you a flavour of the weekend.

Hi Richard

I don't know if there are enough hours in the day for the number of performers already on the bill ;-)

But you never know - may have a surprise or two ...

Keep well

Yann Frisch's performance of the act has greatly improved since the video that's posted (and thank you Brendan, for the link).

Yes Matt I probably should have said that that video doesn't do him justice at all. As good as that performance is on the video last Saturday night was even better. The routine presented last Saturday was slightly different, better timed in my opinion and he had added possibly the funniest magical moment of my entire life.

I was in the second row of the stalls and jumped to my feet. This may sound odd but I swear to God I actually welled up and nearly started crying for the young man. Quite a wonderful performance.

I noticed he already has some tricks up his sleeve too with regard to dealing with fame and the hassle one might get. ie Pretending not to speak english when not wanting to converse with certain people. Good for him I say.

Yann Frisch is a great great performer... his routine is refreshing.. entertaining and very polished... I loved watching him at christmas, and I know i'd have loved watching him at the weekend.. its one of those performances you get at FISM where you just know the performer is going places in the future...

regarding the winners list...

it seems there are THREE lists of winners going around... the original list that Dodd popped at the top of this thread (thanks for doing that Dodd) was passed to us as the award ceremony was taking place.. it was also the list that appeared on the main FISM site for a while.. (and is now the above list)

There was then another list about an hour later that was picked up by some people...

and then on contacting FISM, another list came out...

the list that Craig (and now we, following Gays email) have posted is the list that Gay Ljungberg was given for the the prize ceremony...

although we've not got some emails about that list as well... !!!!

I'm going with the list that Gay Ljungberg provided.. and await a response back from Eric or Derek...

sorry if theres been any confusion..

Andrew I was part of the jury for the stage competition. With regard to the stage comp Craig's list above is correct.

There was audible disappointment that no comedy award had been presented in the Stage Category as there were a few pretty funny acts.

It should probably have been explained to the audience the reasons that it wasn't awarded.

- One act that might have been considered opened with a Vent bit lifted from Ron Lucas and therefore wasn't considered
- Another act was a good and funny rod puppet act with a lottery prediction as it's finale. As this was a puppet act and not magic it could not be considered either.

Here is the 123 in each category of the Stage Comps that was awarded.

General Magic
1 Charlie Mag - Spain
2 Max Guito - France
3 Simon Pierro - Germany

Manipulation
1 Dion - Netherlands
2 Franz Koffer - Hungary
3 Kenris - France

Mental
1 Not awarded
2 Christian Bischof - Switzerland
3 Frederic Da Silva - France

Stage Illusion
1 Cubic Act - France
2 High Jinx - England
3 Raul Black - Spain

Most original act - Sylvana - Spain

For those not aware to be awarded a 3rd prize you must score an average of 60/100 points. 2nd Prize you must score 70/100 points and 1st Prize you must score 80/100 points.

There is only one thing to add to Dodds list:
Most Original Act Close Up Magic: Yann Frisch

One might want to add that there was a large number of acts disqualified for beeing of sub FISM ECM standard.

Hello Brendan,

It was a pleasure to share with you this jury.

I can confirm that Yann is still much in reserve and we will yet beautiful emotions.

As head of the France team, I had the opportunity to see some repetition of his findings. It is already fully developed and I have not seen anything like it elsewhere, to believe that Frisch Yann is a alien.

At a master class at Macon in France, Jeff McBride said, referring to his talent for missdirection after seeing the act of Yann, "there was Jason Latimer, there is now Yann Frisch".

I would like also, on behalf of the team of France to thank all spectators for their hospitality and support, it was very important for our candidates, most of which were their first experience of international competition, with the pressure you must imagine.

See you soon.
Regards
Peter Din
