Who is producing this?

I'm seeing some great names with real experience to offer and a bunch of people who have no business teaching anyone anything.

The convention is being produced by the original poster, Craig Mitchell.

As far as Brad's assessment: "I'm seeing some great names with real experience to offer and a bunch of people who have no business teaching anyone anything," I would say that comment reflects the lineup of most conventions.

Hi Brad

A key element of IMX is choice ... one of the primary goals is to provide those attending with a wide variety of options - appealing to a cross-section of interests, performers, lecturers, special guests & tastes. If you can walk away from just a single session - having gleaned something of value ... I believe your $109 will be well spent. If not at one of the numerous classes, then perhaps at the Close-up Experience, International Stage Gala Show, late night sessions with the pros or at one of the many secret highlights still to come!

And with over 15 artists ... and many more still to be revealed - there are plenty surprises in store :-)

Regards

Magicians have a love hate relationship with choice. They want access to everything. And if they leave their choice to hear someone proclaim how amazing THEIR choice was, it creates negative feelings toward the convention.

It's an interesting decision but a double edged sword.

Craig, are you intentionally playing to the youth market with some of your choices? Is this a MagicCon type alternative?

Craig,

It sounds great and I will be registering ASAP. Just out of curiosity, will any of the students from your school be making the trek? If so, can you tell me about how many? (Okay, so it's not completely out of curiosity.)

Thanks,
Dustin

I believe MagicCon is supposed to run every other year, no? In which case this convention would fall between MagicCons, and not compete with it.

Yes, giving people a choice is a double-edged sword. I can't recall hearing a lot of people happy when two events occur at the same time and they have to choose one.

At the end of MagicCon 2010 they made a point of saying there would be one in 2011.

To some - choice may be a foreign idea ... you will all watch this session, we will only have one performance style, we will all put you in a single room with 800 other people and expect you to learn card manipulation. No thanks.

Lack of choice to me is the biggest killer. Each of us are different - with varied tastes & interests. Trying to have one size fits all doesn't speak to me as a person. IMX is about giving some of that control back to you as the attendee.

Scary ? Maybe. But the response in such a short time has been phenomenal. You get to choose your own sessions, select your own lectures and create your own unique experience. Small group training sessions. Hands-on time with some of the most exciting names in magic and killer performances - some never before seen live in the USA.

And if you're crazy enough to try and attend absolutely everything - we'll do our best to help you along the way. But with 15 performers at the start - and 11 months still to go - there is so much more excitement still to be revealed .... that you'll deserve an endurance award if you can phsyically get to everything. What an achievement that would be ;-)

We also value all your input & suggestions ... so if there is a specific performer that you want featured - let us know! Or an event or idea - share it!

Post on the Forum and be sure to check out the Facebook page where you can win an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas!

Another star has just been added to the IMX 2011 line-up ... CHRIS CAPEHART

Jamy Ian Swiss says it best: "Chris Capehart is one of my absolute favorite magicians! He's funny, fast, and fearless. The moment he steps out onto the stage, he owns it, and he stays in command every moment until he leaves them laughing in his wake. For audiences small and large, young and old, his results are the same, and his impact immeasurable."

Chris Capehart is offbeat, clever, funny and skillful all rolled into one ... and you'll have the opportunity of learning firsthand from this legendary performer at IMX 2011.

IMX 2011 brings together 15+ of the worlds greatest performers in 3 days of non-stop magic. Unrivalled choice, hard-hitting training, incredible performances & phenomenal value ...

Promising the very best that magic has to offer, IMX adds another performer to its incredible line-up David Acer joins the IMX All-Star Team !

David is an original in a business where creativity is a treasured commodity, and that fact alone places him on the very short A-list of top contributors to the art of magic.

He is a Gemini-award-nominated writer, comedian and appeared on a multitude of international specials, a plethora of Canadian comedy classics and an array of American prime-time standards.

As a sideline to these moderately more public careers, David has been performing, inventing, and publishing original magic for over 25 years ;-) He's a treasured classic in magic that has to be seen to be believed ... and was the undeniable of the recent FFFF convention.

Paul Vigil

Postby CraigMitchell » September 1st, 2010, 11:05 am

[size:14pt]PAUL VIGIL WILL BLOW YOU AWAY AT IMX!

[img:center]http://www.imx2011.com/web/starpaul.jpg[/img]

"When Vigil appears, magical things really do begin to happen in his wake. Mysterious things capture the imagination and rupture the skeptical adult heart. The astonishment he creates feels as wordless and giddy and excitingly foreign as a feeling of first love.

This is magic in lavish abundance.

This is the world of Paul Vigil.

His magical artistry is raw and potent elegantly constructed, perfectly scripted and flawlessly executed. You will be fooled, badly, even when you know whats coming next. More than that, Pauls magic leaves you open and wounded, but in a good way like youre better for having experienced what many swear to be real magic.

Vigil is a rare breed of magician. Hes a true believer in magic as an art form, poetic device and creative living exercise. Magic isnt just a career or a calling for him. It is nothing less than a way of life whose fruits can be shared and enjoyed with others. In his hands, magic sleights are heavenly meditations. They are joyous ceremonies of creation.

To Paul and those who deeply feel the effects of his work, magic is not a puzzle to solve. It is a state of being to embrace. Vigil adheres to the idea of creating magical moments that last for years or even a lifetime.

The result is something elegant and sophisticated a script peppered with vicious linguistic ploys, intuitive gambits and invisible knuckle-busting sleights which separate the men from the boys. These seeds of wonder these beginnings or a miracle are coddled, cradled and nurtured by a man whom many consider to be magics best-kept secret.

By blending past and present, chemistry and psychology, linguistics and sleight of hand, Vigil has assembled a profoundly powerful toolkit for producing magical experiences for others, experiences that wildly transcend simple card and coin tricks. Paul Vigils magical art form originates from the soul, and that is where it is felt ..." - jay fenster

Paul Vigil will present his full evening show at IMX in what is guaranteed to be a truly unmissable experience.

And with over 20+ of the finest performers from across the world joining Paul for 3 days of nothing but magic - IMX is going to be a feast for the senses.

Thanks to John for sending me the below ...

http://www.linkingpage.com/magicnewsfee ... vigil.html

A great interview with Paul Vigil by Dodd Vickers. EVERYONE who's had the opportunity of seeing Paul live only but raves. Can't wait ...

"Paul Vigil has often been referred to as "the best close-up magician in Las Vegas". He's a free thinker and an explorer of the mind of both the performer and the spectator. Above all else he's a man who loves the art of magic. With an intensity that engages the most cynical of audiences, Paul has become a "Must see!" in a city known for it's ruthlessness towards performers. "I'm here to be the best--not only at what I do, but at what can be done--period. I want my audience to experience something they've never experienced ever before. I want them to feel something they've never felt before. I want my audiences to believe something they've never believed before; until they walk away from my show." I our interview we explore why magic is so important to him and what secret project he's working on in Las Vegas."

An evening with a true legend of magic

Postby CraigMitchell » February 15th, 2011, 11:21 am

[size:14pt]An evening with a true legend of magic ...

David Berglas is a performer who needs no introduction. He is a legendary man of mystery whose exploits are unmatched in the history of modern magic. David joins us as our special guest via live video conference at IMX 2011 for an unforgettable evening that will pull back the curtain on this truly remarkable man.

Derren Brown says it all: "One of our greatest living magical performers ..." David defined magic on British television as one of the very first magicians with his own television series ... Winston Churchill, Aristotle Onassis, Paul Getty, the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Michael Jackson, the Sultan of Brunei and most of the British Royal Family have all experienced first hand his incredible miracles of the mind.

[img:center]http://www.imx2011.com/web/starberglas.jpg[/img]

From stage to screen he has acted as creative consultant on numerous major films and the list of Honours accorded to the man is incredible. While many know of his extensive career on stage few know of his incredible work behind the scenes through his Foundation for Promoting the Art of Magic. His philanthropic endeavours have benefited the magical fraternity the world over and given hope & joy to thousands of young people from some of the most destitute conditions imaginable.

His story in magic is without a doubt larger than life

Known for his numerous publicity stunts including going down the notorius Cresta Run blindfolded, manipulating and even smoking cigarettes underwater(!), performing Russian roulette, and touring the world, lecturing on and demonstrating memory feats Davids performance remains unmatched. While his signature pieces include the levitation of a heavy table and a dangerous pulse stopping routine the most beautiful of all comes in the form of a card effect the Holy Grail of Card Magic known simply as The Berglas Effect to see it performed is to believe in true magic.

Experience the joy all over again at IMX as we celebrate the man, the magic & the mystery that is David Berglas ....

I am really looking forward to IMX - this is like a breath of fresh air for a magic convention - advance sign up online for what you want to be a part of - an absolutely amazing array of talent - unique events - and bargain room rates and a simply unbelieveable bargain on the registration. I am probably one of the most jaded people around when it comes to a magic covention but this one really has my interest - it's different and I am excited about attending.

Whichever, I'll be there as long as the 737 lands.

David Kaye Joins IMX

Postby CraigMitchell » April 22nd, 2011, 8:18 am

[size:11pt]IMX GETS EVEN BIGGER!

IMX gets even bigger as David Kaye joins the IMX All-Star Team!

David Kaye is undoubtedly a kids show master but his principles are universal. Whether working for children or adults, David shares with you a lifetime of secrets to enhance your performance at IMX. Not to be missed!

Richard Kaufman says of David Kaye's work -

"There is no book regarding the performance of magic for adults that is the equal of David Kaye's Seriously Silly. The psychological insight the author has regarding his young audience is staggering. Seriously silly offers lessons in performance and psychology that every performer, whether working for children or adults, can use to greatly enhance their shows. I don't publish many books these days, but I had no choice here: Seriously Silly is the best book ever written on how to perform magic effectively."

Most overheard comment... "How did they get so many top performers and lecturers.. I have never seen a lineup this impressive." Easily the most impressive convention I have had the pleasure to work or attend. Thanks Craig for all your hard work.
