Staple Trick Goes Wrong

Don't know whether this was previously reported:

"St. Pierre, a popular teacher among students, would conduct her class in the spirit of a vaudevillian magic show in which she would cast herself as the master magician and a student as a volunteer from the audience, the decision states. One act included a stapler trick in which she held a loaded stapler close to the volunteers skull and created an impression that a staple hit the students head, when, in fact, it fell harmlessly into the volunteers hair.

In September 2006, however, the stunt went wrong and the stapler went into 15-year-old Shawn Lynchs head, sending a trickle of blood down his face.

Realizing the injury, St. Pierre wiped the blood away and asked Shawn if he was alright. He said yes and she sent him to the bathroom to wash up, cautioning the students before the end of the class that mention of the incident should remain within the classroom. She did not direct Shawn to see the school nurse or notify her superiors."

Michael Close has a hilarious story about Michael Weber and a stapler in this interview: http://www.sleightclubshow.com/episodes.html

It's in episode 5--don't remember where in the podcast the story is, but listening to the whole thing is time very well spent.

And she had the gall to sue because of her dismissal! What an idiot! She's lucky she's not in jail. "Accidents happen," said the District Court Judge. What a crock.

And this shocks anyone because?

This is becoming typical of frivolous American "lawsuits".

How else can a 80 something twit knowingly place a hot cup of coffee in her crotch, spill it on herself, sue the restaurant and win millions for her ignorance?

As Ron White said, "You can't fix stupid".

You can with a .22, unfortunately that option is still illegal.

From what I've read, the McDonald's award was lowered to $480,000 upon appeal. Probably a lot of that went to legal costs. The lower amount is almost never cited.

Anything over the replacement cost of the coffee is too much.

Coffee is a hot beverage unless you purchase the "iced" version. At 80 something, one should know that.

Terry, I'll remind you of that when you're 80 and wet your pants because you forgot to put on your Depends that day.

This is the case people love to bandy about as an example of America's frivolous lawsuits. Typically these people don't know what the hell they're talking about. HERE are some of the facts about that case that most people don't know. Guarantee if your son or daughter was burned and had to spend 6 days in the hospital and undergo skin grafts, you wouldn't think it was stupid or want to shoot him/her with a .22.

In the words of a great film director who never says "cut!":

"That'll be enough of that sh*t!"
