Anyone Having Trouble Viewing the FISM 2009 website?

Postby Richard Kaufman » February 11th, 2009, 9:50 pm

I can't seem to get their website to open at www.FISM2009.org using either IE or Firefox.

Anyone else have this problem?

It worked for me, but it took awhile.

I'm using Firefox and it still works.
The page is very busy, with a couple of boxes jumping around. yuck!

Try going to one of the other pages besides home:

I am having trouble with some of the links. You click on them and they don't work.

Nope--can't get it to open with IE, Firefox, and I even tried Netscape. All time out.

I can open it with both IE and FF.

There is a re-direct. Try the following link.

The two boxes bouncing around the homepage may be the issue: maybe you need an Adobe Flash update??

They do not seem to be using Adobe Flash for those annoying boxes.

It' still working for me. I can't think of why it would not be working for Richard, other then the conspiracy theory.

Works for me on Mozilla Firefox. By the way, one of the annoying boxes is out of date. Time for a new annoying box!

Richard,

Do you have a pop-up blocker that may be causing you an issue?

You may also want to check your security settings on your browsers as they have a nasty way of screwing up your access to sites.

I always have a pop-up blocker on, but it's never caused a problem with the FISM 2009 website before. But with those little boxes now floating all over the place, that might be it.

There were some random Internet backbone routing issues about the same time this week that this started for you folks who had trouble.

The symptoms were slow or timed-out site accesses.

It could have been that...or that combined with some individual PC issues.

FISM is clearly expanding its market share into the world of porn ...

Would be helpful if the site admins prevented xxx spam all over their 'official' message boards ;-)

I alerted the main FISM body last time, no idea if it was ever cleared up..

but for such a high profile event, its a shame they dont seem to update or even maintain the forum and site often... some of the original spam on the form was weeks old... :(

those flying boxes are somewhat annoying!!

I have the same problem on the Australian Institute of Magic Forum. I'm in there twice a day deleting spam.

How do you do it Richard? Any tips?

Compulsory Registration and a non-standard Captcha should get rid of most board spam ...

The majority of these spam attacks come from particular IP ranges which you can also block.

Craig is correct: we have compulsory registration and a Captcha program in place (where you have to type in those odd-looking randomly generated words).
