"Theory 11" mentioned by columnist in "S.F. Chronicle"

Postby castawaydave » December 19th, 2008, 2:56 pm

Columnist Mark Morford of the "San Francisco Chronicle" lists Christmas gift idea suggestions including the following:

"6) Propaganda playing cards
I have no idea what the hell "elite military precision" means in relation to the manufacture of a black, badass-looking deck of cards, nor do I have the slightest clue how such a technique will possibly make any difference whatsoever when you spill your scotch on them during your next game of solitaire.

Who cares? I just like the idea that these theory11 dudes have apparently worked very, very hard to make the tepid, grandmotherly world of card design all hipster cool rock 'n' roll. Talk about reinventing a niche. Plus they're only 5 bucks a deck."

Wow. Uber-cyber-fascist playing cards. And I thought the Ullmen Trials was out there.

I'm so sick and tired of all these stupid butt ugly decks of cards. I really think these are the worst ones yet.

Propaganda- The dissemination of information aimed at influencing the opinions or behaviors of large numbers of people.

So, if they tell enough people that you're cool if you use these butt ugly cards, they'll think you're cool too.

They probably work great as finale production cards for tricks like Poor Charlie...

I'm sure they'll keep making them as long as people keep buying them.

All the mercs that I know juggle cards. Out in the bush, in the Congo, fighting the Somali pirates - they all relax, knock back a brew or two and juggle these cards.

It must be true. I saw it on the Internet.

Frankly, this approach is brilliant, analagous to the Charles Atlas 97-pound weakling getting sand kicked in his face. "You too can be a bad-ass if you juggle THESE cards. Men will fear you...women will want you."

What a hoot.

I think Theory 11 was just glad to be mentioned in the Chronicle as a good place to go and buy some "Stocking Stuffers" for under $5.00 to the GENERAL population.

Usually that space is dominated by the products that Pepka offers.
