The AFP is reporting that illusionist Roy Horn is set to undergo knee surgery in Austria.
There is no detail on why the operation is needed, or if the injury is in anyway caused by Roys rehabilitation from the attack by one of his tigers in 2003.
A spokesman for Peter Panzenboeck, the surgeon who was to carry out the operation, confirmed the report to AFP, adding that Horn was currently undergoing medical exams at the Sanatorium Hansa in Graz.
Roy received a standing ovation from the crowd at Chers debut show in Vegas last week when he stood up from his wheelchair and walked for the cheering fans.
More on this as it develops.

It might be knee surgery, or it might be something else and the business about "knee surgery" is just a cover.

Completely agree. This is certainly something to keep an eye on.
The good news is he was photographed looking active before he went into the hospital and had the presence of mind to reserve the whole floor according to our sources. So it looks like it wasn't an complete emergency.
Hopefully...

He looked good at WMS. He needed very little help onstage and as usual, he had one of the best one-liners. They had shown an old film of dozens of Irene Larsen's "lovers" hiding in the closet and then parading out. Roy commented that he "had never seen so many magicians coming out of the closet." The audience roared and Darren Romeo nearly convulsed with laughter.

According to an article from ContactMusic.com:
Magician ROY HORN is recovering after undergoing an operation in Austria to rebuild the knee that was ruined in a savage onstage tiger attack.
The showman - one half of legendary Las Vegas duo Siegfried + Roy - was left in a life-threatening condition after a white Bengal tiger used in the magicians' Mirage Hotel and Casino spectacular mauled him during an October 2003 performance.
Horn went under the knife in Graz on Monday (12May08) to receive a knee cartilage transplant, and doctors have revealed his condition is "given the circumstances, very satisfactory".

I haven't heard anything about his knee being injured before. Does that ring a bell with anyone?

Re: Roy Horn Hospitalized, Will Undergo Knee Surgery
I don't recall anything about the knee during the attack. If memory serves, Roy has had more than one knee surgery as a result of an injury during the sub-trunk. He banged it up real well once. It could be getting extra stress as a result of deviated walking as a result of the stroke which is resulting in this new procedure.

Couldn't find anything specifically mentioning the knee injury in connection with the mauling, but given the past condition of his knees, I can see where it might have been happened as a secondary injury.
More interestingly, I found this from an E! Online article in 2005 discussing the pair's return to Austria where he received additional therapy:
Dr. Albert Scheller told the German Press Agency that Horn "is undergoing stem cell therapy using cells from his own body." Scheller said the "stem cells are removed from cartilage in the patient's knee.
Articles discussing previous knee injuries:
From an interview with CNN in Oct 2003, I found the following:
FELDMAN: Yes, they have missed shows in the past, Roy has had knee problems, he blew out his knee, during the -- the show is an extraordinary physical and physically demanding show, so they have missed shows in the past. Its -- it doesn't amount to much when you take a look at the longevity that they've had in Las Vegas. It's a handful of shows overtime. But they have missed a couple.
From an LVRJ article that we archived after the attack, we found this: Icing his knee that night in 1995, Roy said he wasn't rushing his recovery....

I assume because of this:
Dr. Albert Scheller told the German Press Agency that Horn "is undergoing stem cell therapy using cells from his own body." Scheller said the "stem cells are removed from cartilage in the patient's knee.
(This was done in Austria)
