The beauty of modern Japanese magic lies in the inventiveness of the creators. Ingenious methods are born and forgotten principles are unearthed and re-examined, offering a fresh and innovative approach to the art of magic. The performers who contributed their time and talents to this video share a deep passion for Japanese magic and the creators whose works stand as a testament to magic's ability to cross the boundaries of culture and provide astonishment to a universal landscape. We hope that after watching our demonstrations you, too, will develop a new admiration for the magicians of Japan.
I must extend my gratitude to the participants who spent their time to practice and refine their effects to near perfection. Without their sincere dedication and enthusiasm, this video would never be possible.

Re: Magic of Japan
I believe the following effects are printed as follows:
Metamorph-Rose New Magic of Japan by Kaufman
Human Cannonball Genii Magazine Volume 83 Number 5 (May 15, 2000)
Band on the Run Trap Door Magazine by Steve Beam
For both the Shimomura trick and the Futagawa trick, I am pretty sure they are both in print. I don't know where, but I am pretty sure that the Futagawa routine is published in English, but I highly doubt that the Shimomura trick is in anything but Japanese.

Re: Magic of Japan
This video makes me more anxious for the new Kaufman and Co book on Japanese Magic, I wonder if it will be released before or after Jennings Takes It Easy?

Re: Magic of Japan
Not sure yet. I have received the final few new tricks I was waiting for from Tomo Maeda and Yuji Wada (great material). Those have to be written, and new illustrations done for them.
As for Jennings, I'm now editing the text, starting at the beginning, before sending it to proof readers and beginning the process of taking photographs.
I need more time ... for everything. Anyone have any suggestions? :)

Charles-
well done again...you continue to set the bar higher and higher for the performance of close-up magic.
Thank you.

Re: Magic of Japan
Charles,
I am not sure, but is the trick that you perform by Shimomura actually his trick or his concept. What I mean is, did you take his idea and turn it into what you performed or is that all created by Shimomura.

Noah,
It is Shimomura's principle. I reworked it into the routine you saw in the video.
Thanks for everybody's kind comments so far!

Re: Magic of Japan
Just pulled my original copy of New Magic of Japan from 1988 off the shelf to revisit it.
I was shocked to realized that I own #1 of the 50 copy deluxe edition signed by the authors!!
How could I have forgotten that!?
I am getting old after all!
