Too bad this isn't available on region 2 dvd yet. I already have Melies The Magician DVD but the quality is really quite poor. I will keep an eye out for this in the UK.

Any news on when the expanded Martin Gardner Impromptu magic book will be ready? I was hoping it would be available by the Gathering for Gardner (in a couple of weeks).

I too have been waiting for the Martin Gardner Encyclopedia, any good news?

The Melies, set is superb! We received our copies Monday...great packaging, nice accompanying booklet, and one fascinating clip after another. (Check out the complete list of 173 films in the set on our site.)

"Le Grand Mlis," the short biographical film included in the set, stars Mlis' son, who performs some pretty decent magic effects. The piece gives a vivid view of Mlis' world.

As for Gardner, the book's coming along, though Gaetan Bloom's book's getting done first; anyone with questions can write me at toddkarr@aol.com

Today's Google Doodle is an animation of Georges Méliès, in recognition of the 106th anniversary of the release of The Conquest of the Pole. Background here.
