During my tenure as a bar musician, I had a guitar pedalboard that had two functions.

First, it contained an array of guitar pedals allowing me to be loud, very loud and really, really loud with a lot of distortion and ear-numbing harmonics.

Second, and more importantly, it was a sort of barrier, about six inches high and two feet square that, on more than one occasion, repelled drunken patrons stumbling against the band as they made some predictable request ("Freebird! AHHH! Freebird!").

I always thought: "Pal, if we could play 'Freebird' do you think we'd be stuck in a dump like this!?"

I think they are both at fault. He certainly shouldn't have been attacked but it is a sleazy routine anyway. There is far too much sleaze in magic.
