I'm sorry to report that I have heard from Jerry's wife, Linda, that Jerry has passed away after a long illness.
I never got to meet him, but in all our correspondence and phone calls, it was immediately apparent that he was a kind, honest, loving gentleman, very knowledgeable about magic. He wanted to bring smiles to all the people he encountered. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear this, he was really a great guy, and a great magician. You would always find him having lunch with Sol Stone at the Saturday NYC magician hangouts Reubens Deli or the Pizzeria. One of my favorite tricks he did was to borrow a quarter, and it kept multiplying as he tossed it from hand to hand. At the end he would have a bunch of quarters, then pick one out, give it back to you, and walk away with the others. He was one of the good ones.

Jerry was such a delightful guy. Very generous. He introduced me to Alan Greenberg when I needed a financial backer to publish books.

I'm so very sorry to hear that. I loved his approach to magic, and I enjoyed reading his posts here.

I'm sure sorry to hear this bad news, but I'm glad I have Jack's compilation of Jerry's perverse magic tricks that he so generously shared for years here on the forum.

Sorry to hear that. I have fond memories of him at one of the Tannen's Jubilee where he floored people with a trick found in RRTCM and making the point that these old books contain a lot of great material.

Terrible news.
Mr. Deutsch seemed to love magic so much.
At least he could finish his Masterpiece:
"Gerald Deutsch's Perverse Magic: The First Sixteen Years."
He will be inmortal along with his great ideas.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Deutsch.

Really sad to hear this. The fact that all proceeds from the book, Gerald Deutsch's Perverse Magic: The First 16 Years, have gone (and still go) to the non-profit charity, Open Heart Magic, an organization that places volunteer magicians in hospital settings to entertain young patients, speaks volumes about the man. Not to mention his generous sharing of a perverse magic trick on here, like clockwork every month during those 16 years. I had never seen Gerald perform, so my curiosity led me to this wonderful (and perverse) little performance he did for his co-IBM Ring #26 members in NYC back in the 80's. I had never thought of it before, but the eleven card trick (or 6 card trick, or whatever) is inherently perverse magic. I particularly enjoyed the routine with the dice, salt and pepper, and purse frame:

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed the dice routine.
I liked his speech rhythms too. If I could only hear and not see, I'd nearly have misidentified him as Levent.

Re: Gerald Deutsch
I hope this next generation, with the help of the elders still around, can keep the Saturday gatherings pleasant and welcoming for visitors. Sol, Ken, and Jerry did that so well.
