Dealt: Richard Turner

I saw the film Dealt today, the new documentary by Luke Korem about Richard Turner.
It's a wonderful film. It's a film even your magic-neutral Significant Other will enjoy.
Yes, it's about card magic, seconds, false shuffles, but it's so much more. It's a movie about card magic the way Searching For Bobby Fischer was a movie about chess. The obsession at the center is the springboard for the illumination of what devotion and discipline demand of a stubborn genius and the people around him. Kudos to the filmmakers for a movie that unfolds so surprisingly and honestly, as each scene presents fresh revelation about coping and struggling under adverse conditions.
This is the feel-good movie of the year. It has the potential to be a sleeper that makes it big.
Opens in NY and LA October 20th. Not to be missed.
