The Next Jerry Andrus?

Postby Joe Mckay » October 22nd, 2016, 11:29 am

I just saw an interesting chap pop up in David Williamson's Facebook feed.

His name is Shivraj Morzaria. And he is one of those cool cardistry kidz.

What is interesting about his work is that it doesn't just focus on incredible juggling/sleight of hand skillz. Instead he also incorporates a Jerry Andrus feel to his work. Andrus was famous for a number of things. But one of his lesser known interests was his work with shuffling cards in unusual ways and bending cards in order to create unusual displays.

And this is something Shivraj brings to his cardistry work. And I really love the combination. His work in this area exceeds anything I ever saw from Jerry Andrus. There is also a touch of Paul Harris in his approach as well.

To me this feels much more inventive and creative than the usual work I see in this area.

I don't think it was one of Jerry's lesser-known interests since he wrote a book on the subject: Kurious Kards. He was ahead of his time.

This is great, a sort of a melding of mechanics and card manipulation. The MacGyverication of card juggling. Add rubber bands and paper clips to take it to the next level. BTW, Kurious Kards is available as ebook here http://www.lybrary.com/kurious-kards-p-796975.html (royalties go to Jerry's estate)
