Help with castle pass

Postby Mike Kamlet » June 11th, 2016, 8:52 am

I'm looking to take my family and my brother's family to brunch when we come in for a visit in early July.

Because we're a large group my IBM card only works for part of our group.

Can someone help out with a pass for the rest of the party?

Also they won't let me complete the reservation without the card in hand. (So right now it's only for 6 and I'd like to complete it before it fills up)

Thanks

You have to pay the door charge for every person in your party, even if you have a pass. I think it's $30 a person (perhaps $35). And you must have a dining reservation as well. Quite expensive for a large group.

Yes I understand the charges. Brunch is $20/person
Plus the buffet

I was told that my IBM card would waive the door charge for 2 guests.

But still need the guest pass for the additional guests

@ Richard,

How does a Genii subscriber use their once a year visit to the magic castle?

Call the castle and make a ressie. Then they call us to check.

Thanks for the clarification in terms of needing to call for a reservation. I had assumed that perhaps they had a current list of Genii subscribers that they could check upon entry.

Is this printed in the magazine somewhere?

The fact that you get a Guest Pass is printed in the magazine, and has been mentioned repeatedly.

Unless you are a member, are escorted in by a member, or are on a performers guest list, you always need to make a reservation.

Also, Mike, unless the rules have changed recently (Dustin?), brunch is different from normal evenings. Even if you have a guest card, a member must phone and make the reservation for you. It can be made in your name and secured with your credit card number, but the member needs to set it up for you.

They let me set up the reservation for brunch by myself (using IBM membership)

I was able to get another gust card and expand the headcount -- but they still wanted details (member name and number)

It seems like they just want to make sure you really have a guest pass...

Sure, but folks who aren't regular members and so are unfamiliar with Castle procedures may very easily think that means they can show up at the door. Evidently there's more advance procedure involved.

A sentence or two about how to make practical use of this very cool but previously abstract Genii benefit might be put in a box and become part of the regular layout for Knights At The Magic Castle. Now that it's 4 pages, there would be room. Plus it would be a constant reminder of the extra value of being a Genii subscriber...

The electronic guest pass has a dinner/brunch option so the member does not have to make the reservation for their guest. As for the hard pass, I'm not sure. But given that there is now a Saturday and Sunday brunch, there is more space so I suspect that the guest can make the call, but they must present that card at the door.

Richard, it says only "Don't forget that as a Genii subscriber you are entitled to a bonus visit to the Magic Castle each year!"

That sounds like a person could just drop in. That's why I wrote:

You're right: we should do something more concrete.

When people visit the castle for brunch, do they get kicked out at some point so the castle can prepare for the dinner crowd?

The club closes at 3:30 pm and then reopens at 5pm for dinner.
