It's ironic that Karl and his ex-wife (or if he remarried, his current wife) asked for funds to help his son, but received little according to the website.

If he had asked for funds from the magical community, he would have received tens of thousands of dollars in donations from all of us who've enjoyed his writings for the past 50 years.

Are you sure that this Peter Fulves is Karl's son? The reasons I ask is that there are several mentions of "Bill and Georgia" in a context that would make sense if they were Peter's parents. Also, the fatherly-looking gent in the picture I linked to earlier wasn't Karl. Somewhat strangely, the obits didn't mention survivors.

This from Richard Kaufman is hilarious:


"The first time I met Fulves was in 1972 at Tannen's. I was 14. He asked what my favorite book was (this was just before Tony Spina sold me Cliff Green's Professional Card Magic). I replied, "Harry Lorayne's Close-Up Card Magic." He turned and walked away."

Not only is this the funniest thing I've heard in awhile, that story pretty much solidifies my mental impression of Mr. Fulves.

It would be nice for Karl if he would allow some republication of his magazines if only so he could get credit for certain things as they would be more widely read. There are some surprising credits in his works but if you don't know them, you can't credit them.
