Grippo, Rogers, Counts, Racherbaumer?

Postby George Olson » July 21st, 2003, 12:28 pm

Just a general question; I believe Mr. Racherbaumer is working on books on the above subjects. Is there a "progress report" or "time line" in the works?

I believe that Geno Munari is also working on a Grippo book. Are they working together perhaps? It's supposed to tip the design of the Grippo Pocket Index. That would be worth knowing about.

Yes, Geno and I are working on this big book of Grippo's "real work." Yes, it will tip the index and how to do it, plus insights into the Grippo Approach.

Time-line?
Not date has been set. We want to do the book right.

Oh...forgot to update the other books.
The Rogers' book is more or less finished. No release date yet.
COUNTHESAURUS (all of the false counts extant; no tricks) will probably be released on my Premium Website. It is an abecedarian compilation, a crazy extension of Mentzer's Counts, Cuts, and Subtleties and Lorenceau's TAMING THE DRAGON.
I may release it in paper or hardcover, as well. I think the interest will be limited to about 50 people.

The other book, limited to about 6 people, is PROSPERO'S WAY...

Thanks, Jon!

Make that 51, 'cause I'll be first in line on your website for "Countesarus" (sp), it gives me something to occupy my time behind the Bar.

Ever try to do card magic with Latex gloves on? Boy, does it give you "tack." Just right you can "flat" palm a card with your fingers separated and bent backward.

The Rogers book will probably be another classic!

Jon,

If you don't mind, a question about another book you've written that is in the pipeline.

Richard has said he is selling the rights off to the Sankey Unleashed tome. Any update on when we can expect to see that one?

Only RK knows the fate of this book, and sometimes he's unsure. Rest assured that it will appear soon and the material is very stimulating...

Right now the book publishing business seems to be "suffering and glowing" on an uneasy plateau. There are a few good sellers, depending on the spin and promotion and imagined need...DVD rules, even though the Glut buries many contenders...

Desktop Publishing permitted everybody to be a publisher. The Web provided sources of phenomenal distribution. Piracy still thrives. Hacking gets better. Intellectual property continues to be threatened.

It's a heck of a rave party!

Any update on the COUNTHESAURUS book? I am standing in the 52nd spot... :p

Oh, and what about the large tome on riffle shuffle work?

I just added three new false counts to COUNTHESARUS. Just when I thought I had every count extant, somebody devises a new one. I may have to put this one to bed without any hope of inclusivity?

Grippo is 58% done. THe bio parts are the snag. Geno is also considering releasing some great Grippo props in the near future.

The master RIFFLE SHUFFLE treatise is 70% done.

The SANKY UNLEASHED will be out within 5-6 weeks.

PROSPERO'S WAY will be out after the summer.

Question: Is anyone still reading such books? Right now I'm awash in DVDs.

I am a book reader and hereby pledge to buy a copy of each of the books so promised. So please, release them not only in electonica, but in pulp.

Oh yes...please, please, please make these available in print form. Or, at the very least, as PDFs for the "masses". Thanks.

Hello All,

I was going to make a more formal announcement soon, but I suppose I should speak up now. My company, Squash Publishing, is releasing Sankey Unleashed. I am pleased to report that it is at the printer as I write.

I expect to have books in hand by the end of May, barring any major problem with the printer.

Further details to be posted shortly at www.squashpublications.com

Thanks for your interest.

Regards,

Gabe Fajuri

" Of making lists, there is no end... " Probably not an exact quote, but you get the idea. Perhaps it's the sort of thing that you simply have to put to print at some given point and then issue periodic supplements, either print or online, or both.

I feel your pain....I've been dealing with a Bibliography From Hell project for longer than I care to remember.

Oh, and yes, there are lots of us who still read, and who are eagerly awaiting the new books, especially the Grippo magnum opus.

Gabe,

If you don't mind my asking, are you the individual that also has to reprint rights to Cardshark and Cardcraft now? Richard had commented quite a while ago that he had sold rights to those books to a different publisher and was wondering if that happens to be you. If so, any word on possible reprints here? Or would you suggest waiting for a formal announcement? Any ballpark figure on price for the Sankey book?

I have not yet sold the rights to anything other than "Sankey Unleashed."
It's a great book--lots of wonderful material by Sankey and if you have 100% Sankey and Sankey Panky, you MUST buy the new book.
As for reprints on the others, we will have to wait and see.

Chris,

"Sankey Unleashed" should be ready in three or four weeks. The price will be $45. But, be sure to tune-in to the Squash web site for more info on a pre-publication offer. Something should be posted there in the next week or two.

The book will, of course, be available from magic shops worldwide.

Thanks for your interest.

Regards,

Gabe

It is great that Gabe Fajuri is puiblishing this book of Jay's.

I edited an earlier version of the book some years ago (believe me, there's a story here) and I know it contains great material with cards, coins, dollar bills and strange objects (like a tomato seed packet) to produce visually exciting, audience-pleasing effects.

Gabe's Squash Press did a fine job with the David Ben book and it is encouraging to see someone entering the magic book publishing world with quality products.

This book, which was originally to be two books, was written (by me) from watching videos of Jay performing in a hotel room. DAvid Acer added editorial stuff. One of the original titles of the card stuff was PSYCHO AT THE CARD TABLE. This was mercifully dumped.

If you add Matt Field's editorial prowess to the mix, plus Gabe's savvy and artistry, and consumers will have a book with shelf-life much longer than the vaporous video-replications that flit and disappear in the marketplace.

I videotaped Jay demonstrating almost 100 routines in two very long sessions. It was from these tapes that Racherbaumer wrote the book.
I then took almost 400 photos of Jay, from which Earle Oakes eventually drew almost 300 drawings.
I then asked David Acer to edit the book.
Now Gabe has taken all of that and made a final product out of it and I think all of you will enjoy it very much.
