Ooooh, nice looking issue. I downloaded it, took it to lunch, and got so caught up in the Dan Sperry interview that I nearly got a parking ticket.

My copy was in my PO Box without the plastic wrapper. How did they know which box to put it in?

I can only guess that a postal worker was intrigued by the cover, and opened it up.

Arrived in Logan, Utah 6/16. Looks like another great issue, but I did note that the image of the book SLEIGHT OF MIND on page 73 is of a book on mentalism by Ian Harling and Martin Nyrup, not an image of the very similarly titled SLEIGHTS OF MIND book on "neuromagic" by Macknik and Matinez-Conde under discussion in David Britland's thoughtful article. Interesting to me, I had just finished reading Sleights of Mind and had enjoyed it very much when I received my July Issue. David Britland's review was disappointing to me.

Seeing magic that I know and love examined by enthusiastic scientists as well as an all star list of magicians was very interesting. Among the many observations and the very accessible explanations of research done on cognition, there were a few that were less profound. I believe that David Britland picks on this book unfairly. I hope that he read the whole thing rather than cherry picked a few rough spots.

My only complaint is that they put a blaze disclaimer before each magic secret they discussed. This was irritating. Anyone who picks up the book to read it is not going to skip those sections, in my opinion.

I read this book on a Kindle. My first magic related Kindle read.

I recommend this book as a fun summer read for magicians.

Britland is a very thorough fellow, and he rarely gives a negative review unless he feels strongly. In this case, I know that he's been following these developments for quite some time and, I think it's fair to state, the review accurately states his position.

They gave a talk at g4g9 which was self contradictory between the two portions of the talk, and the tests on which they based the key part of their conclusions failed to control for a critical element.

I do not believe any of the magicians in attendance felt positively about their presentation. I followEd them with a talk on the direction of attention and offered several contradictions to their claims.

Hi Richard,
When I try to access the videos in the last two issues (Sperry and Wild), I am told by a little pop up that I need an internet connection. I tried deleting both issues and downloading them again, making sure to check the box to include the media, and this didn't help. The other issues are fine when I am not connected. Help!

I had the same problem once. I deleted and then downloaded the issues again and they work fine. Please delete and download again. Then let me know.

I have deleted and downloaded twice. It seems to me like the download didn't take as long as the first time I downloaded. I am wondering if they aren't completely deleted and then only partially downloaded again. If the ipad worked like a Mac, I could know that the files were completely deleted and start over. With the ipad2, I don't know how to do this, or if it is even possible. I love my ipad. but it is sometimes frustrating. I have used itunes for years and I still am confused by it at times. Thanks.

If you are on the main page of the app, where you see miniature versions of all the covers available to you, there is an edit button in the upper right corner. Tap it and a small X will appear in one corner of every downloaded issue. Tap the X and that issue will be deleted. Shut down and restart your iPad, open the app, and download the issue again (making sure to check the box for downloading the multi-media features).
Let me know if that works.

I had the exact same problem and Richard's fix worked for me.

Most people with Macs (and iPads) tend to put them to sleep rather than shut down and restart (reboot)--PC users know that this helps to keep a machine running smoothly, but Mac users think they don't have to do this.

I restart my Mac once a month whether it needs it or not.

It also helps if you wave a dead chicken around the room, counter-clockwise.

I thought the idea was to use the live chicken to take away the problem and then ...
