December Issue

Postby troublewit » November 23rd, 2010, 11:45 am

Thank you, Richard and staff, for another excellent issue of Genii. Month after month, you deliver a periodical filled with surprises and treats for the magical soul. Congratulations on the eleventh year of publication. Long may the lamp shine, and best wishes for the new year.

Just had a first pass through going back to front just to look at the ads, saving the rest for later, and I'd like to say:

Thanks very much to the advertisers! For helping to keep this fine magazine in print, and also for bringing out new and cool products that keep this hobby interesting. :)

Some that really caught my attention: Tillford Illusions' Modern Art (!), the Phoenix Parlour Deck (excellent idea), and Kardwell's Alchemy 1977 deck -- I think that would be a cool Hallowe'en or birthday present at least.

As for the USPC 809 Mandolin decks on the inside front page, at first that was a jolt! I thought someone was playing tricks out of season. But now I think it's a good idea -- performers have something musical in the cards with which to play and connect with a musically-minded audience (although of course many who appreciate both music and magic also ride bicycles, as I do).

So far I did read the article about Ben Whiting's "American Gypsy", and I was very happy to read how well it was received and its future prospects. I'm sure I'll read it again for the comments about magic, beauty and connection.
