The Coney Island Fakir Released on Kindle!

Postby Gary Brown » October 16th, 2010, 10:04 pm

I am pleased to announce that The Coney Island Fakir: The Magical Life of Al Flosso has been released for the Kindle. It can be found at the following URL:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00472O7L0

The book is now out-of-print, so the Kindle offers a great opportunity to access the Coney Island Fakir at about a tenth of its original price!

For those of you who read and enjoyed the print edition, please feel free to post a review on Amazon! Thanks.

Any plans to release it in EPUB format? There's lots of folks out there that have a non-Kindle e-reader who would appreciate it being available in that format. (Like me, for example. :) )

Thanks,
Jim

Wow! Thank you all for your enthusiasm and your kind words.

I just got a Kindle myself and find it quite amazing. These platforms provide a remarkable opportunity for those of us with specialized interests -- offering greater flexibility for authors and readers of works that aren't economically feasible in the mass market. But even some mass market authors are moving in this direction -- Jim Swain, one of my favorite writers just released four new books in electronic format that will not be printed on paper. I've started the first one -- Wild Card, featuring Tony Valentine, and it's wonderful.

And Jim, regarding your question about the EPUB format -- if you or anyone else has any tips on how to go about doing that, I'd be happy to try. Amazon makes it very easy to get works onto the Kindle.

Thanks again, everybody!

Check out a piece of software called "Calibre" -- it makes it very easy to convert between various ebook formats.

I'd be happy to help out with the conversion and with any testing/proofing you might want to do.

also depending on what your publishing from.. many systems will auto publish in ePub format...

Calibre is free and allows publishing...

adobe indesign also publishes ePub

Sigil will also publish ePub

the new version of scrivener (which is a absolutely FANTASTIC tool for writing scripts, books, in fact any writing) will also support ePub publishing...

I personally write everything in Scrivener, and although originally only available on Mac.. this is now a version coming for Windows..

Scrivener is great for writing any large writing project (books, novels, screenplays, magic scripts etc) - http://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener.html

Gary,

I just signed up for the forum and just saw this, but I will definitely check it out. At such a great price how can I afford not to.

How does one get book like this onto the kindle?
I heard that Erdnase was also available for the kindle... but how?

My wife has a Kindle and I'd like to fill it full of magic stuff.

Hi Frank,

You can either go to Amazon and order it from the Kindle store and have it delivered to your Kindle wirelessly and it will show up and download in about a minute - or order it straight through the Kindle menu and the Kindle store through the device itself.

It is easier to order through the computer. Using the Calibre program up the thread here - I have about 90 magic books on mine.
Most of those are easy to find on Google books and are public domain. And free.
You can directly load all or some,(check with Todd Carr)of the cd's (PDF) from the Miracle Factory.

By the way, I have the larger screened Kindle DX - I don't know how the smaller screened one handle the PDF graphics but there are alot of free books out there to experiment with.

Have fun!

Don

Experimenting with my wife's kindle, I realized I can take any PDF and just copy it to the kindle from my PC. Looks like you can do the same with music. Some of the PDFs are not "kindle-ready", it seems, as the text is so small, it's extremely difficult to read.

I didn't see an option to modify the text size.
