August issue

Postby Matt Stevens » July 15th, 2004, 8:06 am

I would just like to say that the August issue is one of the best issues I have seen in a long time.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

Amen. In addition to the great Teller article, David Regal's column is the funniest he has written so far. Readers should take it all in, even if they have no interest in the individual books being reviewed. Not to be missed.

I have to agree with everyone else regarding the August issue (photos of David Abbott taken by Pete Biro would have been cool though) ;)

I have to start making room for the David Abbott books, I'm salivating at the prospect.

Anyone from the UK got their August issue yet? Not that I'm complaining as its only really the start of the month, but I get it via airmail and it arrives well before the start of the month usually...

Rich.

Amongst the many goodies in the August issue is Harold Cataquet's 'A Tribute to Peter Kane'. I'm looking forward to reading Harold's future contributions to GENII.

Still no August issue here in Holland. Maybe we'll get the September issue before that.
Actually strange, because normally the issues are right on time.

Im afraid something has gone wrong with the Dutch connection! I have spoken with a few guys and it looks if nobody has received the August issue.

We use a distribution service to mail our foreign copies. So all the copies for Holland are put into the local mail system someplace in Europe, but I'm not sure where.
We'll look into it.

Our delivery company had this response regarding the delay in subscribers receiving their August issues in the United Kingdom:

"We have investigated the delivery issues you presented to me. I can confirm that there were specific delivery issues within UK in July that have already come to our attention. We conduct regular performance monitoring and testing of all of our services through all of our vendors. Our test results for July indicate that, irrespective of the postal administration, all vendors experienced poor delivery times to UK specifically. The delivery problems were local to the UK, specifically with Royal Mail. In fact,
there was an article documenting the labor issues Royal Mail has experienced recently."

Yesthe August issue has arrived this morning and it looks like another great issue. Thanks! We as subscribers are so spoiled that we start already complaining if our copy is just a little bit later than as we are expecting. Richard, I apologize.
This reminds me of something happened to me many, many years ago. I was wondering why my good friend Ted Biet, the man of rising card fame, received his copy of Genii always a few days earlier as myself. It was also funny there was always a weekend in between. Ted was obviously amused by that and always phoned me with the question if I had already received my copy only to hear I didnt receive the copy yet. He explained me every time that of course I have to pay on time Years later an aspirant member of our magic club was visiting the club meeting and told me with some authority that there were at the moment only one or two subscribers on Genii in Amsterdam. To make a long story shortthis gentleman (??) had a nice job at the post office and lifted my copy from the mail and read it in the weekend. The most amazing thing for me till this day is still he was telling this story without any trace of shame. BTW this guy didnt pass the balloting.
I continue reading the August issue now. Im in a hurry because I expect within a few days the September issue.

Dick
