What is this trick?

Postby David Regal » April 3rd, 2009, 2:03 pm

I recall seeing an ad this year for a card effect in which a selected card is inserted by the spectator into a face-down ribbon spread, left outjogged, then the spread is turned face up and the deck is seen to be in order with the selection occupying the appropriate spot in the sequence. Am I imagining seeing this? I can't find the ad, and I like the plot. If anyone recalls the ad and the name of the trick, please post.

Thanks.

I dunno David but if done in the hands after a few false shuffles that might be a clever use of a classic force.

Sounds similar to "Against All Odds" in Cardshark.

James Swain does a trick somewhat like that called Perfect Triumph where he has a spectator point to a card then goes into a triumph routine ending with the selection face up and all cards in the perfect sequence. On his DVD Miracles The Magic of James Swain.

Could it be Masuda's Impossible Miracle sold by Stevens? Here's their ad:

Impossible Miracle (Masuda) Aka So You Think You Can Skip...Another miracle from the creative mind of MASUDA! Masuda has done it again! The performer removes a card from the deck as a prediction and hands it to a spectator.....then inserts the card into the face down deck randomly. The deck is turned face up and spread between the magicians hands. It is revealed that all the cards, are arranged in order and the prediction card is found to be where it should be! Let me repeat this again, so you dont miss thisthe prediction card is found to be where it should be! Example: If the card was a 9 of clubs, it is found between the 8 and 10 of clubs!

Hope that helps.

My first thought was also Impossible Miracle, although the card isn't returned to a ribbon spread. In this demo, it's inserted into a squared deck:

there are no real magics. they are all tricks. only illusion and fast acquisition are the ones making this "magic" as they say true but actually they can be learnt. to be a magician requires a lot of effort though.

David -- that's the famous Mutilated Parasol trick.
