The April Issue of Genii is Now In the Mail--Featuring Andy Nyman!

Postby Richard Kaufman » March 14th, 2009, 5:21 pm

Happy to say our April issue mailed a week ago and so some of you should start receiving it this coming week. Our cover story is on British mentalist and actor Andy Nyman, and includes seven mentalism routines from him.

Andy is quite a busy actor: his latest film is Brothers Bloom which opens this spring (you can read more here on the film, as well as seeing Andy on the set, on ain't it cool news:
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/32796)

It's another great issue and I'd be interested in hearing from you when you receive it.

Not in Frankfort, but then we've had a good amount of rain and the pony express may have been held up.

Another one arrived in Seattle today. I'm half-way through with the Nyman article. I love that photo of Max Maven, Andy Nyman, and Derren Brown. Hi-larious!

Mine arrived today 3/16/09 Monday. The Wichita post office must be sleeping on the job. Hell, a few months ago I received mine damn near before anyone else on this forum. Guess the jets are not flying as much as they really should be flying these days. Another great issue RK. Peace all.

Richard,

I recall you mentioning that Paul Harris would be featured in Genii with some of his material when the Art of Astonishment DVDs were released. Was I mistaken or is this coming next month?

Thanks.

Got my Genii yesterday. And having a good St. Pattys day as my Dingle book arrived today. Took about two weeks for the book to get here this time, not bad at all.

PickaCard, you are correct, but it unfortunately has not come to pass. But we did get some superb applications for Paul's Pointer Anomaly and I'm trying to figure out how to make them available to all of you.

Arrived today in St. Louis, and it looks great.

I wasn't able to place the familiar face on the cover until the article referenced Andy's 2007 film 'Death at a Funeral'.

If you enjoy dark comedies, check it out. I thought it was brilliant (along the lines of 'Keeping Mum').

The seven effects look quite good - can't wait to work through them.

The first issue of my subscription arrived in Nashville on 03-16. I have not seen Genii in many years since I've been out of magic but I gotta say it was everything I expected and more. Also, when can I expect the back issues that I paid for as part of the subscription deal? Thanks

Picked up the issue on 3/18...it came in on either the 17th or 18th in SW Virginia. Great issue...the Nyman effects are very clever and I've got an immediate use for at least one of them.

Got mine today. I noticed a different kind of paper is being used.

Mine also arrived in a white paper envelope. Any reason why?

David.

The paper on which Genii is printed hasn't changed in many months.
Your copy might have arrived in a white envelope as a way of combating theft.

I don't know why his copy was in a white envelope--I was just guessing. Will investigate.

Hi Ian

Have you experienced difficulties in the past with receiving issues by subscription?

I ask as I'm not too far from you (Livingston) and am beginning to suspect a closet magic enthusiast at the local Post Office.

I usually don't receive at least one issue each year (although Margret at Genii Towers always kindly arranges a replacement) - November 2008 was the last one to go AWOL and January 2009 was the last issue to arrive.

However I always find it difficult to estimate when I should be expecting the next issue as I think sometimes they arrive by air mail instead of economy.

I would be unwilling to give up my Genii subscription as it's not convenient for me to pick up my copies from a dealer. I'd definitely be interested in a 'white envelope' option if this service is available to these fine shores.

Would welcome any thoughts on your past subscription experiences.

Cheers

Andrew

I had two or three years of thievery - at least half my Magics and Genii went missing. It only started when I moved house, and any complaints to the post office had the same reaction - there's nothing they can do.

It was only issues in clear plastic wrap - replacement issues and others like Magicseen got through in their opaque envelopes. These days I get them through Kaymar, but it costs twice as much as going direct :(

Unfortunately, the last time I inqured about opaque envelopes it would cost too much to send them, which is why I'm quite keen to hear about this new development.

MUM comes DHL :D

Take care, Ian

Yep, but that's just for the envelope, right?

If it's 12 dollars extra, I'm seriously interested...

It costs us $1 per issue extra to purchase the envelope and for the hand labor involved in stuffing it, postage, etc.
But, yes, it's only $12 extra per year for the white envelope option.
