We've Hit 500 Members!

Postby Richard Kaufman » January 24th, 2008, 3:22 pm

Despite the fact that we now have "only" 500 members versus 10,000, the Forum doesn't seem to have noticeably suffered.

Didn't the forum have a directory link somewhere before?

It's shut off so people can maintain their aliases.

Being a construction worker, a millwright by trade, I have noticed that the number of blue collar workers interested in magic are far and few. The numbers seem to favor professionals and white collar.

That's an interesting observation, I never considered it until you mentioned it here. When I think of all of the magicians I know they are all either white collar or professionals; magicians, lawyers, writers, teachers, doctors, actors, etc.

I think Larry Jennings was a plumber but he is the only craftsman that I could think of on short notice.

Marlo was a tool and die maker, I believe.

Jennings was a plumber, and later repaired boilers for city of Los Angeles.

Many amateur and professional magicians are salesmen of some type (Cliff Green was a shoe salesman); insurance, real estate, clothing, and so on.

No--there are now over 500 registered members. (Actual member numbers don't reflect reality because of the glitches encounter and the work-arounds Brad made to get everything running). The fact that it's all working now is somewhat miraculous because Brad forced the software to do something it was never designed for!

A good coder can make any code do what he wants it to do. Sounds like Brad has some good experience behind him.

Brad, ever done any assembly, C or C++?
