Postby Guest » March 8th, 2007, 6:59 am

Dear Forumites,

I'm thrilled to announce that on the morning of May 5th, 2007, a selection of choice material from the magic collection of Jay Marshall will be offered for sale at public auction. Books, ephemera, apparatus, posters and Houdiniana will be included in the sale.

The auction will take place at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield Hotel, Schaumburg, Illinois, and will coincide with the 2007 Magic Collectors' Weekend. Registrations for the Weekend are going quickly. Click here to check the updated convention page: www.squashpublications.com/MCA2007.html.

An illustrated catalog is in active preparation, and will be available for download soon. Hard copies will be available for purchase on approximately April 1st. MCA Weekend registrants will receive a complimentary copy of the catalog.

Be sure to check www.squashpublishing.com regularly for more information and updates. A link to the catalog download and additional details will be provided here when available.

Gabe, PDF for auction cannot be pulled up. Please try the link yourself as it could just be my computer but, even so I'm sure others will have the same problem.

I just downloaded it, too. No problems on this end. Let me know if you still can't download it and I will send it to you via email later on tonight.

FYI, there is additional material (unpublished photos, and a very nice essay on Jay and his collecting career) in the printed catalog that is not in the PDF version.

Gabe, As much as I hate to admit it the head Genii was correct. I was running an older version of Adobe. This has now been corrected and I see some very nice items coming up at the auction.

Won't auctioning the collection take all weekend? Or longer?

This is not his entire collection, just some choice items. The catalog shows 350 lots, so if the auction is brisk, say 1 minute per lot, that would take nearly six hours.... Hmmm... might be a long day...

Much of Jay's collection has already been dispersed (and much of it wasn't magic related).

A large chunk of his collection went to the American Museum of Magic. I assume some family members may have taken some things, or many things (as they are entitled to do, of course).

This auction is for what's left.

Not entirely true, Richard. There is a lot more material in Jay's collection that will not be offered at auction. After next weekend's sale, this material will also be dispersed via a variety of methods. Please do not forward inquiries regarding this material at this time.

Remember, the auction is open to the public and will also be live in eBay, so be prepared! Bidding commences at 9 am on May 5th.

Live on Ebay where Gabe?
(as in what's the sellers 'name')

I don't know for certain, but I suspect that Gabe was referring to eBay's "Live Auction" services, not the traditional eBay listing most people are familiar with. See http://www.liveauctions.ebay.com/

Gordon is correct. The auction will be available as part of eBay Live Auctions and "viewing" on line begins later this week.

Look for a seller names "jayandlefty"

She was forgiving enough to marry me...I am not sure how she will feel about us sharing her card! :D

Dustin, I suspect that your credit card scheme might have a chance of success if you can persuade "jayandlefty" to list your purchase on the credit card bill as SHOES!! ;)
