The Great Illusionists by Edwin Dawes

Postby Sean Piper » June 7th, 2003, 2:54 pm

A question about this book, for those that have it:

My copy of this tome run through pages
1, 2, 3, 4, ... 62, 63, 64, 49, 50, 51, ... 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 ?!?!?!

All pages from 49 through 64 have been printed twice.

Did this appear in all printings of the book, or does it make my copy a little more valuble?? :p

Cheers,

Sean

Sean,

My Chartwell Books (1979) edition is fine. What edition do you have?

Books are printed and bound in signatures of sixeen pages each. These signatures are then gathered and bound into the book. Occasionally a mishap --either mechanical or human -- will occur and two copies of a signature will appear. Sometimes this will cause another signature to be omitted. Sometimes the extra signature is just that extra.

This not only does not make the copy more valuable but results in a defective copy. In my many years in the book business when such a copy came to store attention the offending pages would be heavily bent in and the book would be returned to the publisher for credit. The customer, were there one, would be reimbursed or provided an immacualte copy.
